KNIGH11B4, and I'm pretty sure the story you have is less than accurate too sir, since I do not think we have talked about anything and you haven't heard my side of things at all. Remember what they say about the truth being somewhere in the middle of the stories?
Fenix Mike, I have no idea what you mean by not having to buy twice. If you provide the correct dimensions it is a one time purchase.
We stress not to buy a cover unless it is in your hands or you have confirmed the dimensions with the manufacturer. We have seen website dimensions differ from what a customer gets in his hand. When the customer has jumped the gun and ordered a cover based upon website dimensions and what he gets will not fit his can he is upset and we end up having to make a new cover for him. Most times it is me who eats the extra cost too since I'm trying to make the customer happy.
We ask customers to provide the diameter and length of their can as well as the make and model. I just went back and did a quick check on JUST the AAC SDN 6 cans we've made covers for. There are three different diameters from 1.31 to 1.50 and FOURTEEN different lengths from 7.0 to 8.0 that have been provided by customers for the SDN 6 can. This is a great example of why we stress to the customer that they should measure their own can or confirm the dimensions from the manufacturer before placing an order. FYI, by far the most requested size is 1.5" diameter by 7.66" length.
Concerning inventory, I just checked and there are over 300 of the SAS1,2,and 3 covers in inventory. We try to keep a little bit of every size, in 1/4" increments, and every color, except Highlander, in diameters of 1.5 and 1.625 from 8" to 9.25" and even quite a few odd sizes too. With only these two diameters and this narrow length difference you can see that it's almost impossible to be able to keep every possible cover in inventory. We have made covers from 1" in diameter and 4" long to 2 5/16 in diameter and 24" long. I don't recall us not being able to make a cover for a can.
We don't have the SASR covers in inventory since there is quite a bit more work involved in making them. We have a self imposed shipping timeline of two weeks on individual orders and Like a couple of people have stated we do get them out pretty quickly. For custom work I think we do a pretty good job too. We also offer the PALS webbing option on all the SAS1,2, and 3 models too and make a lot of them.
You want to know why TBAC went from TAB GEAR to Armageddon Gear, here's the quick story. We made the SAS3 at the suggestion of Zac Smith, he wanted a combination of the SAS1, and the SAS2. He wanted to be able to slide the cover back to allow the barrel to cool, so remove the bungee like the SAS2, yet not have velcro on the cover like the SAS1. That is how the SAS3 came about. We made covers for them for about four and a half years and never heard a single word from them about a single one of the covers being lacking in any way. Out of the blue Zak introduces the Armageddon Gear cover saying it's the best thing since sliced bread, you can read what he said on the previous post. I have no idea why we were never contacted by TBAC to address an issue if they were unhappy.
We have had a few customers contact us saying that after the cover broke in that it would slide back onto the barrel when the muzzle was raised vertical and they were not happy with it. We have repaired or replaced every single one of those covers for the owners at our cost.
We try to treat people like we want to be treated and I have no problem looking myself in the mirror and also would have no problem standing up in from of the court of public opinion in any business dealings we have done. Sometimes you get taken advantage of but the good far outweighs the bad, and we are very blessed as a family and company to be doing what we are doing.
At the end of the day there are lots of good products on the market, pick one you like and enjoy it.
