I have compared the Ultra 7 and the Dominus CB back to back on my rifle as well as on other rifles in different calibers. The TBAC guys shoot at the same range I do, and I have seen real data as tested by the engineers in person.

Is the 5 uncomfortable to shoot without hearing protection? How is the recoil reduction?
You're not the only one that shoots at Otto Road, or has had the opportunity to talk suppressors and try new equipment with the TBAC guys.
So what has been your conclusion with side by side comparison of the Ultra 7 vs Dominus? Which did you prefer and why?
I still use plugs (as opposed to plugs and muffs) with all my rifle and pistol cans outside of hunting, even just the sonic crack is more than I like to be repeatedly exposed to. Suppressed rimfire with subs are the only hosts I shoot without ear pro.
As for the Ultra 5, as much as I think the Ultra 7 is a nice general purpose and hunting can, the Ultra 5 has a bit too much bark in my opinion to fall into the same category. To me the 5 is more of a niche k can for folks who want something extremely short and light that will take the edge off for a shot or two.
For a shot or three, it isnt bad at all. Takes the bark out, but you still know a rifle went off. For sure louder than my U-7 or U-9, but thats ok.
It helps quite a bit for recoil. My goat gun is a 5 lb 6.5-284 and my everything else gun is a 9lb 300 H&H. Both are a pussycat to shoot with the U-5.

The CB mount is just regular 24 tpi threads on the outside of a brake, but the brake and suppressor mate up with a large tapered surface, which makes the lock-up better than just regular muzzle threads. No performance difference either way for suppression, etc, it's just a better mounting solution. It's not a "QD".

We do have some accelerometer data, from a 308, while the CB brake reduces from a "plain muzzle" by about 24%, the Ultra 9 reduces about 27% and the Ultra 7 reduces about 20%. I can't really go into the technical details of this measurement more right now, but we should be rolling some information out soon.
As far as the Nomad-Ti goes, we haven't metered it. Dead Air makes good cans. Based on the size and diameter, I would expect it to be a little quieter than the Ultra 7 if both had similar levels of baffle tech (ie, it has a larger diameter so larger volume). Who-ever posted that a better comparison would be the Dominus-CB is right, as it is very close in dimensions to the Nomad-Ti (1/4" shorter). But the Dominus-CB is a little quieter than the Ultra 7 so there you go.
As far as dB's go, many of these cans will get a bolt gun in any reasonable caliber down to under 130 dB at the shooter's ear (obviously depending on barrel length). We have some of these numbers on the youtube channel above.
While hunting, I don’t wear ear pro. I don’t find them uncomfortable. I was a shooting a 16” 6.5x47 today with an Ultra 5 on it. I found that pretty comfy, I wasn’t high volume shooting though. A 7 is just that much quieter.
On the Nomad. I have a nomad and all the ultras except the dominus and 223 U, and the nomad is a nice can. The nomad Ti’s are in stock at a few places too. Cheaper than the Dominus. I like them all but you’re by no means slumming it with a nomad Ti. Silencershop has 73 of them in stock right now.
I use an omega with a flat end cap and area 419 hellfire mount for all bolt gun hunting. It’s short, light, quiet, very accurate and reduces recoil considerably. I also have a rugged radiant on the way that’s modular so you have 2 lengths to choose from, good QD system with light weight brakes and the cans light as well. There’s quite a few options that will do pretty close to the same job. If I was looking for another hunting can it’d be a lot of what most others are saying in here;

Yes. I’ve lost all the hearing I care to lose at my age. I don’t know that I’d call it uncomfortable and could go without, but I’m usually not the only one shooting at my gunsmiths range either.
Now I do shoot the crap out of my T1X .22 with a takedown 22 and sometimes no ear pro!

About 24%, so splits the difference between the 7 and 9, just like the sound suppression level.

I’ve been using an Ultra 7 for hunting, and matches for the last 3 years. I leave it on all the time, and haven’t fired a rifle shot w/o it since then. I’ve left it attached to my 24” barrel for mountain hunts in CO and MT, as well as AK. I can spot hits on steel and animals with a 300 WM and 300 WSM. It definitely reduces recoil, but I can’t give you exact data. I’m trying to get my hunting partners to get suppressed as well. I’m tired of having to carry ear plugs on hunts just for them.
Another vote for the TBAC from direct experience. There is more to it than DB ratings and weight. Those statistics should be pretty close for most makes. Much better information is recoil reduction, recoil "shape" (direction /pattern of recoil and distance / direction moved off target) and shot-to-shot consistency in impact location. (Of course lots of other factors go into this last one as well, but the can should not be adding any inconsistency at all into that).

I own or have used the Surge, Hybrid, and the AWC thunder trap. The AWC removes recoil from the TRG in .308 down to ar15. Older can bit works great for recoil reduction. My surge is the worse of the bunch as far as recoil reduction. They all sound the same to me from behind the rifle. I have to be truthful here and say I’ve only ever used the AWC can on the Sako so it could be the nato stock has a really good recoil pad like my desert tech. I have swapped the surge and hybrid from my tikka to compare and the surge slows things down but it’s annoying waiting for the rifle to stop moving so I can spot hits. I wish I had access to a bunch of cans before I bought the surge because I would have passed on it. They say it has a good tone bit I could care less what someone else thinks it sounds like.
I use a TBAC 338 Ultra for all my shooting, including hunting throughout the West every year. It's world class in every way possible, repeatable, accurate and light weight for it's size.
I may be the only idiot dumb enough to pack around a rifle with a 28" barrel and 10" suppressor, but i have a ton of confidence in the combination and I'm not changing until TBAC produces a can with better performance, same capability and smaller size than the 338 Ultra, not likely any time soon.

I bought a version which I didn't find on the website. They appear to have revamped their product line since I purchased my suppressor.
I use my suppressors strictly for hunting, and for all practical intent and purposes mothballed my SilencerCo Omega.
My two primary hunting bolt guns have 22" barrels (308W & 6.5 CM). The 3" +,- extension making the o/a length of the barrel 25-26" makes for a more manageable rifle. The barrel pofile required + the weigh of a suppressor makes for a heavier overall rifle. The shorter o/a rifle with the over barrel design eliminates one draw back of hunting suppressed.
I primarily hunt in box blinds and a rifle barrel approaching 30" was unwieldy. I also found the rifle(s) most convenient hunting horseback as well.
Since I own and have shot rifles with both the over barrel AMTAC & a SilcenerCO Omega, I cannot discern an difference in sound level between the two.
In the interest of full disclosure, I do not work for or have any interest in AMTAC. I'm just a satisfied customer.
A TBAC Dominus K w/ CB mount a would be money! But Not sure they are offering it now!?
I have an Ultra 7 on my 243 and it’s great. I would recommend setting up a hunting rifle specifically for running the can. I originally had a hunter/match rifle with a 26”. It was no fun to hunt with because of the weight and length, especially with the can. I built a new 243 with a 20” barrel and it’s a pure joy with the TBAC Ultra 7 onboard.
If you want one go to the Dominus K thread and tell Zak. I think with some public support it’ll happen. Just make sure you buy one when they are available.

Really liking the Dominus or Nomad Ti. They seem very comparable. There is also still the possibility of finding a great deal on something like the trash panda that sways me that direction.

Basically inside the baffle the gas makes a vortex. So each baffle makes its own swirl instead of terminating on a squared off baffle. Its pretty cool to be honest.
The perk is that is titanium, crazy light. You can run it with a direct thread cap or with a reflex which is basically an over barrel blast chamber that doesnt add length to the can because the length is back over the barrel.

GA Precision 6.5GAP4S extreme hunter. Had them chop the barrel back to 20” to make it handier.

Does anyone have any experience with the Dead Air E-Brake on the end of a Nomad or Nomad TI suppressor?
I am hoping someone has one and can weigh it for me. I contacted Dead Air and they are not able to tell me what it weighs. Also curious if people thought it was a worthwhile add on to the suppressor.

In case anyone else is wondering the same thing, I contacted Dead Air and the 9.6 oz weight includes the insert for direct thread.
I can tell you next week when I get my E-Brake in, just ordered from Dead Air this morning. I will admit I just got a Nomad and Nomad-L after several years of shooting a Hybrid with the 30 cal anchor brake and it is amazing how much quieter they are. I would say that the Nomad is a bit quieter but the Nomad-L is in another class of its own.
On that note does anyone have any direct comparison between the Nomads and the TBAC Ultra series in comparable sizes?
