Rifle Scopes SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

You guys are close. I came up with 714yds on my own. Figured 9 feet between floors at 4.2 mils.

According to Google Earths ruler, the best I can measure anyways, its right at 750yds.

There was a man standing out there earlier but didn't want to take a pic with a person in it. Who knows what kind of whining that would start around here lately.

The scope feels great. Clicks are very nice. Optics are clear and sharp. Love the reticle and mil-diamonds.

I'll get more pics and a review from a different perspective on Sunday.

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

Of course, if the railing is 40" high that would put you at 741 yards. Shows you how important it is to have a known size reference. With my 308 168gr load that would go from a center of mass hit to maybe hitting the ankle.

That's reassuring since I was probably one of the last to order during the group buy.

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

I also got 714 yards at first using 36" for the height of the railing itself with a mil reading of about 1.4 mils. However the correct mil reading to come up with 740 yards is 1.35 so it was close. The hardest part was finding the hotel across the street from a Firestone to get the reading from Google Earth.

I wonder if we paint over our EAGLEs/chickens will we void any of our warranty coverage?

It could have been worse. I mean she could have bought you a "male enhancement" strap-on.

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

Im guessing the rail to be 42-45 inches.

Taken at 20x via an iPhone 3g. Not pad. Great scope so far. I should get it mounted this weekend and give it a test run on its new home Sunday.

Okay, I thought the "I say, I say boy..." was the best post in this thread, but this one beats it!

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

Been playing with mine now. Tried to do a nightime videoscope of the illuminated reticle but my camcorder just doesn't have the sensitivity to work in such conditions. I should have a preliminary video out in the morning when I get more light to work with.

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

Ok, here is the first videoscope of the SS HD 5-20x50mm.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmOHeIBeuFs

I'll be heading to the rifle range tomorrow to do videoscopes of it in action. I should be at AMC at 8AM. So any Houston people who want to see the SS HD in person is welcome to drop by. I'll be at the 100 then 200.

EDIT: Redid the video to another format. Sound chopping fixed.

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

^^ seems like your audio compression is not right. The video is fine. Or maybe it's my phone I will try again.

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

The audio is choppy for me too about 47 sec in. Nice video though. Look forward to the range video and how the reticle looks in relation to targets with, say a 1 inch bull. Thanks for the video.

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

Aiighty then... time for some PORN!!

The sexy "boobjob" that I bought for Jazmine arrived today in fine style. I got it home and immediately began the process of swapping the 16XSS out for the 5-20XSS. Let me tell you, you guys are going to be very very pleased with this one!!

Glass is awesome, clicks are better than my NXS, the eye relief is incredible!! I am just glad this deal came about, and that I was actually able to cash in on this amazing group buy!!

And now... let the PORN BEGIN!! Better pics to come...

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

Just to give you a rundown on what you are looking at above to get an idea on the clearance of the objective.

Savage 10PC .308
Medium-Heavy barrel
Badger 20MOA Rail
Seekins Low Rings
5-20XSS Scope

.098 clearance

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

Nice video CanPopper. Pretty impressive considering the camera is typically the limiting factor. If it looks this nice on camera it should be great in person. Can't wait to get mine.

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

does anyone know what height rings i need for the swfa 5x20 hd i got one coming and i want to use talley tactical rings i have a rem 700 sps in mcrees chassis with a badger 20 moa base any help is good thank you

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

If the rings height is as least .300" high from the top of the base to the bottom of the scope then the rings are good to go. I believe if I'm not mistaking the ring height for the Talley low rings is .410 which will make it ok for a this scope. My TPS rings are lows (.335")and a 50mm scope will fit fine.

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

Here are some more through the scope comparison pics. My picture taking skills suck and the camera quality doesn't help either. Its windy so the tree in the background was always moving. The corner of the while building is 100yds away give or take a yard(laser range finder). I figured it gives you a good idea of reticle thickness. Please don't take the pictures as a comparison of optic quality. Looking through all the scopes below the SS was the best, with the NF pretty close. The PST and Viper looked about the same, and the Diamondback was pretty good too. Hard to tell since it couldn't zoom to the higher powers.

Nightforce 3.5-15x50mm
Viper 6.5-20x50mm
Viper PST 4-16x50mm
Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40mm
SSHD 5-20x50mm

All pics take at lowest power and then highest power. Here are the lowest power pics.

PST at 4x

Viper at 6.5x
P1050431-1000.jpg

NF at 3.5x

SSHD at 5x

Diamondback at 4x

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

thanks for the help i thought that lows would work but wasnt 100percent sure and the talley rings are pricey so i wanted to be right and i didnt want to call swfa and bug them i have seen all the people bugging them on here so i am patiently waiting for my scope i will order my rings now thanks again good sir

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

No, Panasonic Lumix with Leica lens. Its just a basic digital camera. I've got an older 2MP Nikon that takes amazing pics but I can't find the charger for it. Damn kids.

I must have taken 10 pics of each power on each scope and those were just the best ones.

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

To get a better comparison, you should take the pics when all scopes are at the same or similar magnifications, and make sure you set your camera to manual focus so that it's the same for all pictures.

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

Just wantin to say a HUGE thank you to SWFA for getting this scope out to me the way they did, much appreciated. Got home, mounted it on my 6.5 Creedmoor and finally got to go out and play with it the next morning!

This is the most expensive scope I've had so I can't really compare it to anything other than a regular ole' Vortex Viper, but a couple things I really like about it

- A 10 mil turret. Real nice clicks. Something I've been wanting for a while, not having to make more than one revolution to get out to 1000 yds, and it being mil/mil
-Reticle is awesome, the diamonds are something new and I like 'em
-Zoom power ring, not too hard, not to easy, just right

Just a few off the top of my head but it's an awesome scope guys.

Good day

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

I had to take her out and play a little bit this morning. Spent some time bangin steel at 303yards with some Mil Surplus stuff.

Sighting in the 10PC only took 2 shots from my "eye down the pipe" method of boresighting. First shot was 1.4 mils low, and .7 mils right. Read the mils in the scope, dialed the corrections... and BINGO!! The shot hit the 1/2" Center Square at the 5:00 position. I was gigglin like a little kid at that point.

I sent another 8 rounds at the paper target adjusting the magnification back and forth and checking out the reticle. I have got to tell you guys... this thing is FREAKIN AWESOME!! I am so pumped about my whole setup now it is unreal. I plan on getting a brake put on this thing as the muzzle blast is killing me with the dust kickup around here. Sheeez!!

I sent the remainder of the rounds that I brought downrange at the steel. I am not exactly sure what the deal was, but the Streylok program and the Shooter program on my phone don't seem to want to agree. I am not for certain what the muzzle velocity is for the Mil-Surp, but apparently it is quite a bit faster out of my 10PC than the posted numbers would suggest. I was shooting at the down angle, but not that dang much!! Shooter gives me 1.8MILS correction, and Streylok gives me 1.7 (1.69 on screen). These numbers were based on the 2500fps from the bullet library.

However, even dialing the lesser to 1.7MILS, I was still over the target. I had to dial back to 1.2MILS to hit the center of the target. According to my calculations, the velocity would have to be somewhere around 2800fps to 2850fps to match what I am seeing in the program?!?! I am still puzzled about this, but that is what I got for numbers none the less. Someone can chime in with some ideas if they want too.

Either way, I was thrilled to hear the distant "TING" and watchin the steel rockin back and forth... good times for sure!!

No problem at all. Any information that I can pass along... I am more than happy to do so.

The bottom metal is factory Savage that came with the 10PC. And my ST-10 round RatMag!!

Did you account for the higher Density/Altitude in your come-up calculations? Also what BC is used on the calculators; G1 or G7?

Re: SWFA SS 5-20x50 HD Picture thread.......

It is set for the G1 calculator. And yes, I did 6,000 as my elevation just as an estimate. I believe that I am actually around 6,200 or so.
