My wife is going to be pissed if I don't hurry up and buy my new scope!! If I only knew what the price was, I would know which way to go...

I have already decided against getting a FFP in the PST, but this new toy here has me rethinking my decision.

Re: SWFA Super Sniper 5-20X50HD

sounds like these things are beating the PST's to market.......Vortex has got to put more pressure on their suppliers. I'm curious to compare the HD SWFA glass to the PST glass. Seems like it might be worth the extra money.

The glass on my SS10xHD is better than the glass on my PST 2.5-10x

Re: SWFA Super Sniper 5-20X50HD

I got to handle the 10XSSHD while I was in Texas. The scope honestly didn't work for my eyes. That is the reason I went ahead and got another 16XSS, as I really need the magnification.

The HD glass was really nice, but I didn't want to spend the extra funds on the 10X. However, with the fact that this new scope as 5-20X... NOW WE ARE TALKIN SOME SERIOUS GLASS!!

I have no doubt that this scope is going to put alot of stress on the higher end manufacturers to get their stuff in order!!

Super Sniper... the serious scope with the funny name. LOL!!

Re: SWFA Super Sniper 5-20X50HD

I hear ya. I have been a Super Sniper fan for a long time now. I am back into a 16XSS on my 10PC. I am not one that thinks it's a funny name... I absolutely love the things!!

Re: SWFA Super Sniper 5-20X50HD

Just read over on the optics talk forum a post from Brady from SWFA - the price for the new 5x20 will be put out there tomorrow...... in case anyone is wondering.

Opps..... appologies didn't notice it was already posted above. Sorry.

It will be here as well, no need to go looking anywhere else. I'm sure Brady will start a brand new thread devoted to it.

Already heard that hear too!

Re: SWFA Super Sniper 5-20X50HD

Technically, it's the next day...at least on the East Coast. Where is the thread with prices???

Actually, I probably won't be able to buy this optic...I just scored on the Bushnell/Horus scope.

I heard that brother. A lot harder to get something back than it is to give something on your terms. Your brother/friend/trusted person could make a nice home for that SS for the near future! Good luck!

Re: SWFA Super Sniper 5-20X50HD

Rep thanks for the answer. I am anxious to see the price on these things. Looks like a much better scope compared the PST's.Vortex is gonna have some troubles, especially if they still cant get good numbers of Pst's in and Swfa has these ready to go by the end of the month....lol

Re: SWFA Super Sniper 5-20X50HD

Is there a model of this in SFP without illumination??

I haven't found a need for illumination and don't know that I'm sold on FFP yet.
I haven't owned a SWFA yet, but, I think 8-32x may have been a little overkill on my rig and something like this might be right in line with reality.

Well they were under 1500 like they said, lol. Hoping for 1299 or so with a hide group buy/ discount. *crosses fingers*

The glass in the SWFA SS 1-4X24 HD is much better than the glass in the Vortex PST 1-4 as well.

Re: SWFA Super Sniper 5-20X50HD

Even though I have the funds available now to make this happen... I believe that I will be going with my first love... the Vortex PST. I just can't justify the additional funds for the kind of shooting that I do.

I am still a HUGE fan of SWFA and of their SS Line though. I applaud Chris and all his efforts to build a superb super tool that will surely turn the tactical world on it's ear!!

Re: SWFA Super Sniper 5-20X50HD

Not sure about the ear standing.

What I had always admired about the Super Sniper series was no other scope in that price range could match the quality.

I had been waiting for a Super Sniper variable to for LR shooting. I figured the tradition of SS would have a most excellent scope around 800 to 1000 bucks.

So for me the suggested retail price bandied about doesnt give me a warm fuzzy.

Too bad, the SS could have stood a few on their ears, but at that price quite a few scopes compete quite well.

Re: SWFA Super Sniper 5-20X50HD

And exactly how can you say a few other scopes compete well when they are not even out yet. To get the comparable NF with similar feature you would have to spend over $2200. The Razor is $2000. Not sure how you are claiming what you are claiming. Sounds like one hell of a deal to me.

ANd by the time they do the group buy price it will most likely be a few hundred cheaper.

From the hints I've been given I think you both will be pleasantly surprised by the outstanding group buy price.

Re: SWFA Super Sniper 5-20X50HD

+1 on waiting to see what the GB prices will be. Also, if you are talking value for dollars and the features included for the money...the SS will be tough to beat without going to the used market and getting one hell of a good price at that.

Based on the proven track record of the SS line of scopes across the board, combined with the features offered on this newest offering even with a regular retail price of approx. $1500...it is money well spent as far as I'm concerned!

This is the ONLY reason why I haven't made my purchase yet. I want to see for myself exactly what the numbers will be. Wishes and wants go a long way toward where the funds land.

Re: SWFA Super Sniper 5-20X50HD

I'm sure they will give a good hide price, and the quality of SS scopes is not a question for me. I know they are the best for the money the prob is I was wanting to stay around 1000 due to just finishing my MATen build just waiting on my trigger should be in this week. So I had been looking at the PST but waiting to see the price on this one. And they have a couple NF used but new the hide exchange for 1550 I can get a new one for 1700.00. But I don't want to drop that much money might do a millet, muller, or a falcon. And later on upgrade and put that on one of my 270s. I have a millet never had a muller r falcon are they any good. Ps I know there is no comparison to SS.

But remember, those scopes are not FFP.

Also, comparing the NXS F1 to the SS, the SS goes up to 20x which is a huge benefit imho.

I'd imagine they'll start a new thread here and in the GB section, don't worry about missing it, I'm sure it will be obvious.

Re: SWFA Super Sniper 5-20X50HD

I can claim what I claim the same way another can claim it will stand the tacticool world on it's ear. I looked at the few dozen pics posted at the beginning.

Now when comparing prices with the two other scopes- thats not even close! The Super Sniper comes one way and one way only. Does it have a zero stop? Can I get a different reticle? How about a different color for the illuminated dot?

Super Sniper has always held costs low by being the Model T of scopes. Ford was asked what colors the Model T car came in. He replied any color you want-

as long as it is black!

I am not knocking SS. I admire the turnaround done back in the day and the low cost fixed series. I had hoped the 3-9 series pioneered a low cost method to produce a LR scope.

Group buys are great things. If it can bring the cost down 300 bucks- it becomes interesting.

Oh and when quoting prices of other scopes, I found quite a few I'd buy for the same 1500 or less without asking for any discount. As the MAP/Premier thread finally showed us is even a NightForce can be had for hundreds off MAP.

Still watching to see where the price settles. Unlike a few cheerleaders, if the scope comes in at the price I like I HAVE the cash to buy. I like what I use already, or I wouldnt be using them. But I'll pay 400 more for a front focal plane scope than I did my Loopy, just not REAL sure the hollow diamonds are any easier to use than NF's hollow circles.

But if nothing else it can go on my F-Class rifle and be a good fit.

Yea, me too...considering what their others offer.

Re: SWFA Super Sniper 5-20X50HD

I don't get the illumination options comment, but I think a zero stop and maybe a bigger tube would have been nice at this price range. I thought they were going to shoot for the PST's market, only better glass and availability for a couple hundred more....not 600 more. Alot of guys were wanting to cancel their pst orders and get these, so lets hope the group buy is a hell of a deal. I think they might have overshot the price a bit but only time will tell what everyone thinks. I think Ill spend a bit more and get another razor.

Made in Japan, just like the Nightforce, PST and the Bushnell HDMR.

Have played with all of the above scopes I just mentioned, I have to say that Japan produces a very nice scope these days.

Japan knows a thing or two about great glass. They produce the two top cameras in the world Canon and Nikon and all the high end lenses that go with them

Re: SWFA Super Sniper 5-20X50HD

I was just using some examples of what I would have expected for the 1499 price tag. I was thinking they were going after the PST market and when it was 600 bucks more I would have expected something the PST doesn't have. I have not looked through one so I am only thinking out loud but I would hope the glass is MUCH better than the PST. Reliability, however, I imagine is excellent like most ss scopes.

Re: SWFA Super Sniper 5-20X50HD

I really don't see why where it is made matters. (unless they don't want to buy non US) It is all about the specs that the scope and glass are built to, not about where it is made. All the SS scopes are made in Japan, and they are all crazy good scope.
