Does anyone know of any gun stores in the Southern California area (Inland Empire or Orange County) that would stock scopes such as Nightforce, Vortex, IOR, Sightron?
Bigger gun stores in this area like Turners and Bass Pro seem to only stock Leupolds.

I would like to be able to hold some of these in my hand and look thru them before making a purchase, rather than reading about them online and looking at "thru scope" pictures.

You can try calling <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">Fowler's Gun Room and the Stockade</span></span>. The Stockade is listed as an authorized dealer for Schmidt & Bender, so they may carry other high end scopes such as Nightforce, ect. I haven't been to the Stockade in more than 10 years so I have no idea what they stock.

Looking at and through scopes in a gun shop before buying is better than buying sight unseen because it allows you to compare features and play with the turrets and other controls. However, you won't be able to get a good idea of how the scope(s) will resolve details in subdued light or darkness. In daylight and/or under lights in a shop even the shittiest scopes look "OK".

If there are any shooters in your area who own scopes made by the manufacturers you're interested in, try striking up a conversation with them during a range break. Ask them how they like their ________ scope(s). They may ask you if you would like to look through it/them. If they don't volunteer, politely ask them if you can take a peek through it/them.

If you ever travel to ASR (<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">Angeles Shooting Ranges</span></span>) during the week you might be able to look through my PMII 5-25Xs' or my brother's IOR 3-18X 42mm FFP. Other scopes seen at ASR are Nightforce, USO, and the occasional Vortex Razor or PMII. PM me if you can make it to ASR during the week and want to look through a PMII or two, and maybe and IOR.

Re: "Tactical" store in So Cal

I live in OC. Fowlers and the Stockade, which are owned by the same people, don't stock Nightforce. There is a new gun store, Field Time in Westminster (Beach Blvd). They carry Vortex, and Leupold. Thay have a few of the more desireable scopes but no Viper PST ffp's. Ammo Brothers also has Nightforce advertising in their store, but no NF scopes on the shelves, they told me they would have to order it.

I have scoured OC and the the local So-Cal gun shows for quality scopes, but no one has them sitting around, so I had to order my NF sight unseen from Euro Optics. Alex took care of me.

Regards,

Rick

Don't think they have NF (call to be sure) but Rifle Gear in Fountain Valley is worth putting on your list for a visit. That said, if you have the budget for NightForce then you can just trust in ordering one sight unseen. I have several. Tactile feel of the turrets is perfect. Extremely durable. Precision made. Resolution on par with S&B. The ones to get for this game are the 3.5-15 x 50mm F1 or the new 5.5 x 22 F1 which is about to start shipping (anxiously awaiting mine) -- with the new MLR2 reticle and speed turrets. The difference between scope ergonomics on high-end optics is minor, and quickly disappears once you get used to a given brand.

You might also be able to handle a USO as they are in Buena Park.

Re: "Tactical" store in So Cal

I saw a tacitcal store in Oceanside one time while on weekend libo during SOI. They had a couple of high-end optics there. I couldn't tell you to trust them or not, a lot of places around Oceanside are to fuck with new Marine SOI boots.

Good luck though.

I called them a while back and there was a recording that said that the number was disconnected.

Boomstick308,

I highly recommend stopping off at U.S. Optics in Brea. Support a great local optics manufacturer who has great customer service and builds some of the best scopes out there and who can build one just the way you want it. It would be worth your time for a visit.

Sorry, but I respectfully disagree and must set the record straight - while Nightforce scopes do have excellent clarity and resolution and the turrets are positive neither are on par with a PMII. The image contrast isn't as good so details don't stand-out as well as a PMII at the same magnification. And the clicks aren't as positive or sharp either.

FYI, USO moved to the address listed below in Brea about three years ago. You might want to update your contact info for them.

Re: "Tactical" store in So Cal

If you are in the I.E., Turners on McKinley in corona actually had 2nightforce scopes in stock. I personally compared both of them and then purchased from eurooptics the next day. Way better price. Anyway turners had a 3.5-15x50 and a 5.5-22x50. Hope this helps.

Re: "Tactical" store in So Cal

Turners in san bernardino and the new rancho-ontario store both have nightforce scopes in stock as of last friday. Pretty sure the chino store has them too but I would call first.
