I will tread as lightly as possible and start with just pictures and the minimal commentary I have put in them. I will answer questions as I am able, but do please keep things sterile. I am posting this as a public service, not to say what I think or how I feel. I had written a string of commentary that I have chosen to not post here. That's the tone I hope to set.

The feeding was, by comparison to the 700 AAC-SD I shot alongside it, rough and clunky. Here is a side view of the bottom metal. The downward slope as the metal goes forward would help explain the feeding issue.

Wow! I've heard countless bad things about Tactical Rifles. Very sorry to see they stole your money and hopefully you can recover some of your loss.

I had my local smith redo the bedding and cut the pillars to the correct length allowing the bottom metal to sit flush. The trigger pull weight problem was due to it being jammed against the stock side. It was also re-crowned and the bottom metal release adjusted. I put a set of NF rings on it. The scope seems to be fine other than cosmetic damage. The rifle shoots very well now (1/3 to 1/2 MOA).

Again, this post is for information. For anything else please let's do that in another post.

THAT WAS A LOT OF DAMN MONEY FOR THAT RIFLE...shoddy workmanship...as Obama says...Shoddy workmanship....PERIOD...I personally would have them take the rifle back and refund every dime of my $$$$ or sue them in court...their are too many good smiths out there that would give expert testimony of his shoddy workmanship...41lbs on scope rings...damn....

On a side note did someone recommend Tactical rifles to you?
Is that why you choose them?

Nothing but glossy magazine articles and 2 glowing reviews on another "Sniper" web site brought my attention to them. Other than that I can take full credit.

Ah yes, that would have been when I was dropping the rifle off. That was indeed another TR rifle, which was a 700 action in 7 STW. I believe you had a 700 in a McCree chassis?

Hey not for nothing but looking at that invoice you were billed for a NF F1 for the full retail cost ($2,290) but you used the TR rings. Every NF F1 that I've bought came with Nightforce UL 1.00" rings, did you get those rings back with your package since you paid for them? I've never had one issue with NF rings marring the finish on a scope, if you've got them I'd throw those on there and torque them to spec. It won't back the scratches go away but it won't make them worse either. Good luck.

Even if you remove the scope, that's a pile of money for such a rifle.
Sorry you had issues. I would have lost my mind. I am glad to see that apparently the rifle was salvaged and now shoots well.

Spider Monkey, excellent observation. I did not get the NF rings that came with the scope from NF. The TR "Chimera" scope rings are in need of a bit of honing and polishing and have been set aside for another project. The rifle now has a Bushy ERS in a set of NF 34mm rings. The NF scope is on another rifle.

I did not receive the remainder of the accessories until 11/13 (cleaning rod and flush cup swivels), just over 3 months after receiving the rifle and 21 months after ordering the rifle. I do not expect the rings.

Brother, I have MAD RESPECT for how you're handling this. I think most guys would totally lose their shit and go on a flaming war. Others would bury their heads in the sand and pretend that their new $8k rifle was perfect and not want to admit to themselves or others that they paid a lot of money for a POS.
You clearly have a good deal of character to be handling this the way you are.
My hat is off to you, sir.

If they were concerned with customer service the only response to that email should have been "we will be sending a ups slip to you to ship us the rifle so we can have a look at it". Ive also never heard of anyone using a weighted bar to test trigger pull... is that a normal procedure for a high end rifle or snake oil.

Especially after Rooney's response was more in the lines of, "Our rifles are kickass. It's obvious aesthetics don't do it justice."

You guys are good, and I knew you would be. I did order woodland camo. The below tells the story of the stock color. For those of you who are big Manners fans, as I am, and keep an eye on exactly what they offer, one thing to keep in mind is that although the rifle order was placed in January 2012, the stock was not ordered from Manners until May of 2012. And when it was ordered it was for coyote tan. The first email regarding color comes 1 year after the order with Manners.

Anyone venture to guess what the $195 was for, and why it was mentioned only after the rifle was ready to be shipped, and why it was not mentioned in the emails above asking me to select a color? But after a bit of back and forth it turns out I didn't pay for the hydro dip.

Asperly, I am fidgeting in the effort to not say what I think. But I believe it is fair to leave any reasonable person to take what they will from this thread and I will leave it at that.

VJJ, that's a fair question. Bedding, pillars, recrown, adjusting the mag release. There was also a bit of work around the trigger inlet area. About $400. And that's with a nice discount.

Edit: I think they gave me new action screws.

For a lot of years they have had really pretty ads in a number of gun magazines. They post a pretty picture of a small 3 round group ( and IIRC in REALLY small print state that it's fired at 50yds ).
2 years ago one of the guys on my team and I were both having custom builds done at the same time. I offered to put him in touch with the smith that was building mine, and he told me that he'd been working on a quote from TacticalRifles.net. I made sure he was talking about the guys in the magazine ads and he confirmed it was the same place. I referred him to some customer experiences similar to this one and he promptly made another choice of builder.

Question to the OP: When my buddy was working on the quote, they asked him what geographic location he planned on doing most of his shooting so they could "tune the rifle to the environment" or some such shit. Their explanation was that different latitudes and/or elevations determined how they set the rifle up. I'm curious if they asked you the same thing?

I had a friend that got one of these shit rifles from this bastard back in 2009. He waited quite a while for it, and when he got it, the first thing I noticed is that it was painted in krylon. The craftsmanship was so bad, it looked like it was an April fool's day prank. I think Rooney uses a dremel for most of his rifle building.

I do not recall him asking about my environment. But we did talk about the test targets you mentioned, which he offered as samples and in the brochure I was mailed. Here is the test target sent with my rifle:

My groups with this rifle are shown above. I spent the entire day at the range trying to figure out what the problem may be. I base lined my shooting with a rifle I know well. I switched scopes, re-torqued action screws, checked the scope base screws. I had 2 notable riflemen give it a go. I tried ammo of all sorts (see above). Here's how my 308 shot on the same day.

I was searching online and at the TR site to see if I could find their demo target and if it had the 50yd disclaimer I was "remembering" and I came across this older video. I think it's been posted on the forum before, but I thought it was interesting that the mag release on this rifle was also crappy with sharp edges, and they'd used sub-standard action screws.

EDIT: Sorry, while I was posting this, it appears that you found/resurrected one of the previous TR posts from last August that had this video in it. I was pretty sure I'd seen it on the Hide at least once. Apologies for the repeat.
