I was in Columbus when this happened... it's been discussed at pretty much every school I've been to. It's a great example of creativity, skill and some luck. That could have gone very wrong and was pretty much a violation of most engagement policies. However, it worked and the officer was lauded for his skill. I don't deny him one bit of credit! Well done.

But these sorts of things 'can' end badly.

The 'excessive use of force' lawsuit will go nowhere on this one. She was pointing a weapon and lethal force was 100 percent justified. 100 percent could have popped the medulla. But the officers showed great restraint and were very skillful in knocking her down with a glancing 'fender swipe.' Some damn good driving right there!

Notice how she was immediately trying to get back up and fight again. That will negate any 'excessive' force. It took three officers to cuff her. Nothing at all excessive about that. Total and massive restraint on the part of the PD. Hope she wakes up from her nightmare realizing that she was damn lucky it wasn't 'lights out.' And it wasn't "Lights out" because some M/O, Sniper or DM was cool under pressure and well-trained.

Youve overlooked one potentially mitigating factor.

Look at those horrible police officers stopping a woman from killing herself or others without actually killing her. And doing so at the behest of the elite wealthy like Soros.

Yeah, we should get rid of cops so that she can shoot a bunch of people.

How am I doing, guys?
:D

I know a guy that was shot in Afghanistan. Nothing serious and was returned to duty in a few weeks. First patrol they were ambushed and a Marine was shot and down out in the open. He ran out and carried his buddy back to cover. He was given some medals and whatnot for his actions. He was fired from his last job for stealing from the company that he was working for.

By the way that was the best video job with a phone I have ever seen, even when he whipped into the gas station he stayed right on the scene and steady as fuck. He should give lessons.

It was right in a really built-up area called Brookside Woods. Country club and, at the time, fancy golf neighborhood. Probably still is. Really packed in houses. NW Columbus is the high rent district. Or was.

I don't know exactly, but it was probably less than 200 feet.

Average LE engagement range is about 70 yards. That's average. And in that neighborhood, even at a big intersection, you aren't getting far away.

Never went out to look at the specific place. I wasn't in LE then... So it was sort of just a blip on the news. Never paid it more than 2 minutes attention until the video showed up in every school and discussion.... It happened a mile from where I worked and never even knew about it until later. The world didn't go into lockdown then. PD took care of their business, we had work to do of our own. Today they'd have evacuated the whole damn neighborhood.

Thanks for the reply....my sister and her husband lived on the east side of Columbus at one time...I think Bexley? It was all beautiful field stone homes where they were at. Very upscale (he's a Dr). But I swear they rolled up the sidewalks in Columbus at 6 pm! haha

I have never taken a shot under pressure like a SWAT or mil sniper might have to do. I flew in the USAF (so long ago it was still bi-planes) but never saw combat.

So, while I'm pretty we can all put a shot into a 2 MOA size target (handgun, maybe), its another thing to do so with a person in the field of view.

Again, thanks for the reply.

One of the main characters in Black Hawk Down was later convicted of raping a girl under age 12. His name was changed in the movie at the army's request.

Getting hit by a car or getting bit by the K9 is bad, real fuckin' bad, but it's better than a gunshot wound.

Let's look at this another way: if a person tries to run over a cop with a vehicle exactly like that, that cop would be 100% justified in using deadly force because the car is deadly force right ? So the cops used deadly force with the vehicle or not?

Most folks here could probably pick out which letter in the Smith and Wesson logo to hit. Don’t disagree with the mechanics of the shot. SSG will shoot 1/3 MOA no problem…

Of course it was 90 degrees and humid.

Guy had lain in Hot sun in black uniform for 2+ hours.

Cold bore shot.

Not shooting at paper.

Perps pistol hand is not stationary and moves at random.

Got command and everyone else talking, yelling, debating.

Noise all around from sirens, shouting, whatever.

Backdrop that is almost certainly residential houses or a popular golf course.

It is an “out of policy shoot” even though approved by command.

Mangle guys hand or screw up or hit a civvie a half mile away and your career is over… you may go to jail and you and send your lawyer’s kid to college fighting civil suits….

It’s more than shooting skill. Easy shot? Yup.

Easy situation? Not hardly! He earned his plaudits. All that training paid off in a single instant. Which is the reason for all that training.

But note what I said in first post…. There is a reason “shooting gun out of perps hand” is typically a policy non-starter. Trust me, this has been debated for 30 years.

The debate discussions never ended with “that was easy.” Usually ended up with “glad it wasn’t me on that long gun.”

If you can't block out the BS around you, zone in on the task and do the job. Then you probably shouldn't have the job.
It's not golf or tennis

Best post of the thread. Now, granted, that might not be much of a compliment with some of the later comments but there it is.

I could probably do a good shot at 82 yards at the range with no one shooting at me or waving a gun in my direction while wearing comfortable clothes. And having already done a fouling shot.

What I noticed was excellent basics of his shot and the fact that he would settle and resettle in order to get the best natural point of aim so as not to strain or pull to one side. A big chunk of hitting what you aim is getting the body aligned to a natural point of aim with the body at rest.

By the way as far as better hit by a car than shot dead, the more I watch that video the more I'm certain he was trying to t-bone/kill her. Only reason it was a glancing hit is she tried to dodge the car at the last second.
