I was in Columbus when this happened... it's been discussed at pretty much every school I've been to. It's a great example of creativity, skill and some luck. That could have gone very wrong and was pretty much a violation of most engagement policies. However, it worked and the officer was lauded for his skill. I don't deny him one bit of credit! Well done.

But these sorts of things 'can' end badly.

The 'excessive use of force' lawsuit will go nowhere on this one. She was pointing a weapon and lethal force was 100 percent justified. 100 percent could have popped the medulla. But the officers showed great restraint and were very skillful in knocking her down with a glancing 'fender swipe.' Some damn good driving right there!

Notice how she was immediately trying to get back up and fight again. That will negate any 'excessive' force. It took three officers to cuff her. Nothing at all excessive about that. Total and massive restraint on the part of the PD. Hope she wakes up from her nightmare realizing that she was damn lucky it wasn't 'lights out.' And it wasn't "Lights out" because some M/O, Sniper or DM was cool under pressure and well-trained.

I know a guy that was shot in Afghanistan. Nothing serious and was returned to duty in a few weeks. First patrol they were ambushed and a Marine was shot and down out in the open. He ran out and carried his buddy back to cover. He was given some medals and whatnot for his actions. He was fired from his last job for stealing from the company that he was working for.

Thanks for the reply....my sister and her husband lived on the east side of Columbus at one time...I think Bexley? It was all beautiful field stone homes where they were at. Very upscale (he's a Dr). But I swear they rolled up the sidewalks in Columbus at 6 pm! haha

I have never taken a shot under pressure like a SWAT or mil sniper might have to do. I flew in the USAF (so long ago it was still bi-planes) but never saw combat.

So, while I'm pretty we can all put a shot into a 2 MOA size target (handgun, maybe), its another thing to do so with a person in the field of view.

Best post of the thread. Now, granted, that might not be much of a compliment with some of the later comments but there it is.

I could probably do a good shot at 82 yards at the range with no one shooting at me or waving a gun in my direction while wearing comfortable clothes. And having already done a fouling shot.

What I noticed was excellent basics of his shot and the fact that he would settle and resettle in order to get the best natural point of aim so as not to strain or pull to one side. A big chunk of hitting what you aim is getting the body aligned to a natural point of aim with the body at rest.

By the way as far as better hit by a car than shot dead, the more I watch that video the more I'm certain he was trying to t-bone/kill her. Only reason it was a glancing hit is she tried to dodge the car at the last second.
