Rifle Scopes Tangent Theta 5-25X56 w/ Gen 3 XR Center Dot Size

Here's the thing, I have a Gen 2XR. Been using it for years. The X/Y axis are 0.025 MRAD or 0.09 inches at 100 yards. Which actually works for shooting small groups since the lines are quite fine. The 3XR's center dot is 0.075 MRAd or 0.27 inches at 100 yards. That's odd, because I can shoot smaller groups than that. Like 0.12 MOA. So the center dot on that reticle would be larger than the group I'm shooting, which might make it hard to see my bullet holes on paper. The 3XR Fine's center dot is 0.05 MRAD, or 0.18 inches at 100 yards. I guess that's better because I could see more of a 3-5 shot group. But still much larger than the Gen 2XR.

I'm happy with the 2XR, but I've always wanted a center dot reticle. But not if the center dot is going to make it more difficult to shoot tiny groups. And really... tiny groups make me horny haha

Maybe the center dot is better at distance? Wish I could try one before buying.
My opinion is the Gen 3XR doesn’t shine for shooting groups. I absolutely love the beach ball center dot when I’m at 12x-18x shooting various positions or off the tripod on steel.

I’ve never shot the Gen 3XR fine, but I also wouldn’t want a dot when shooting groups. My .04¢ (Inflation .02¢ doesn’t cut it anymore) I really like the crosshair when shooting round holes. I’m a big fan of the Gen 2XR and it’ll likely be what I get for the next rifle.

That's fair. I can see why a larger center dot would be good if you're shooting at mid-mag. On my scope, I'm at 25x 99% of the time. I don't really shoot comps any more.

If your primary purpose is shooting tiny groups on paper, then a high magnification SFP scope with very thin retile will be the best for that, i.e. target scope. March is probably the best for that.

TT 5-25x56 is intended to be a general purpose long range precision scope for a bit of everything, but really intended for primarily shooting at objects of finite size. For that, a 0.075mrad dot is damn near perfect for my aging eyes. Now, it works fine for shooting groups for me, but I am definitely not a 0.3MOA shooter unless I am sitting at the bench with front and rear supports. Even then, that would be a very good day. Most of the time, I am not, so it is sort of a moot point.

That having been said, not being able to see your previous shot on paper generally is not detrimental to group size. For many people, it actually helps to shoot smaller groups. Otherwise, we have a tendency to start correcting for thins which screws things up.

I suppose I'm not many people then. I appreciate the advice. I like being able to see each shot and it's been working well for me thus far.
