I have accidentally grabbed an AICS mag (unmodified) a couple times and I've had zero issues running it with 6.5x47. No issues manipulating the bolt, with feeding or with the mag catch. I run a Badger flootplate in a manners stock so maybe it bring pillared exactly for this action lends to the reliability. Or, maybe I'm just lucky. I don't compete with this rifle but I do occassionally run it fast and hard.

Agreed AW mags are generally better than AICS mags. I just have so many AICS mags for my tikka that it would nice to run both in my tempest. Plus i would of loved to have given the mdt 12 rounders and magpul pmags a shot.
Nothing to it, just giving you a little shit.
Honestly, I'd be happy with either or both - 12+ round native capacity, 10/11rd with ability to work with mag extensions, or both. I've gotten smooth enough on mag changes that it's not really an issue for match use, but the option for a larger mag would still be nice.
Has anyone used an AI/Badger M2013 action wrench for their tempest? Im trying to see if one will work as I would like to remove my barrel without uninstalling it from my chassis. I have been eyeing the SPR/bugholes and the adams wrench.

Call GAP, they sell an action wrench for the Tempest. I have one and have used it quite a bit.
Not sure that I'd personally trust one that locks into the locking lugs, though, due to the lugs not being machined into the action.
It's been a while since I've seen that, so I had forgotten about it. No idea if that will work. Might be worth a call to GAP to validate.
All the pressure is on the tab in the ejection port. It works great on both my Tempests and AIs
Got a bugholes ai action wrench from another member. Fits perfectly in my tempest.

Any one have any remedies for my tempest binding. Whenever i cycle my bolt i get hung up when the round enters the action's collar or pretty much once the bolt lugs get to the frontnportion of the action.
Neither one of mine have ever hung up like that. What cartridge, stock, and mag are you using?
Might be an issue with the magazine height. Is the AW mag tight to the bottom of the action, or is there some wiggle room?
Tempest shooters I need help. So my tempest runs the AW mags fine but once I get on a barricade, 2/10 of the rounds I try to cycle don’t get picked up by the bolt. But this never happens on a bench or prone. Anyone know what the problem is ?
Sounds like you are loading the magazine in one direction or another and changing the feed angle of it. Pay attention to how the rifle is positioned on the barricade.
Might need a taller mag catch. Call MPA on Monday and talk to Woody, he should be able to help you out, especially if yours doesn't have the adjustable mag catch.
Agreed with @jbell above - something going on with how you're putting pressure on the mag. Simplest fix is stop using your mag like a barricade stop. Outside of that, you might be able to run a taller catch and get the mag tighter to the bottom of the action where it doesn't have room to move.
Nope, an AW mag on a Tempest should be snug against the bottom of the action. In most stocks, you need a taller mag catch for the AW to present correctly, and it sounds like your MPA doesn't have it. If it doesn't have an adjustable catch (Not sure when/what models MPA started doing that), you should call MPA and talk to Woody about a taller mag catch for an AW. On my Tempests (Using PDC Custom chassis with an AW catch) there's some side to side wiggle on my AWs, but no noticable wiggle fore/aft (IE: parallel to the barrel). If you've got any up/down or fore/aft play, then the mag may not be sitting up high enough, allowing it to get out of whack like you described earlier.
Now, if I am misreading your issue with the round hanging up going into the chamber, I apologize. The way you described where the bolt is hanging up makes it sound like the case isn't releasing from the mag correctly, causing the bind up. If that's not the case, ignore the comment on the mag catch (at least for now), and see if you can get a good photo or video of what's going on.
That makes sense, just didnt want you thinking that I was using it as a barricade stop or a rest. The jam up happens when i cycle the bolt in any scenario.
I just cycled the bolt with some dummy rounds while apply pressure to the mag so that it is snug. Seemed to fix the problem. I will be defintely getting a adjustable mag catch. Thanks for the to the point detailed explanation and help!!
You two both happened to be having different problems with a similar root cause. Not sure if yours can be retrofitted to adjustable (I'm a PDC guy, not MPA, so I only half keep up with MPAs products), but I know the folks at MPA can get you set up with something to address the issue.
I agree i bough my chassis back in 2016 and have modified over time. Definitely going to order the adjustable mag catch

So I fixed the problem...the tempest is sitting on a mdt acc not a mpa. So the standard length mag catch that came with the mdt made every type of magazine sit way too high into the action so it wouldn’t let the bolt close. I went down one size on the mag catch and it started giving me the issue with the bolt not picking up a round so took it to a match today and played around with the feed lips until the rounds sat higher up in the mag. Problem fixed no issues on the barricades or anything. And I never put any type of pressure on the mags while on a barricade before

Mounted a scope and shot this for the first time today. Factory Hornady ELD-M 108. Put 20 rounds down the pipe.
I like the short throw, the extra lugs. Kinda like an AI bolt. Shooting like a laser out of the gate.

Got a taller mag catch. Aw mags sit tight when inserted and still rounds are binding . Any other tips would be much appreciated.
Its always binding at this point in the cycle.

That makes absolutely no sense. The round is already loose from the magazine and clear of the feed ramp at that point. Can you be more specific on how it's binding up? Is the bolt not going forward?
That is what is getting me. I tried feed lip adjustments, making sure my magazines have no play by getting the extended mag catch. The bolt just hits resistance and comes to a complete stop. I have to wiggle or back the bolt out to get it to go forward.
I am just going to stop chasing my tail with this and start fresh. Have new aw mags on the way. The mags i was were adjusted to my vector. I think if i keep messing with the feed lips ill weaken them before i can get them adjusted, so ill probably just get rid of these 2. Ill go from there and trim the mag catch.
I'm pretty sure you don't have a mag issue now that you've posted a photo. Try single-feeding a round into the chamber (with and without a mag inserted). Does it ever do it without ammo involved?
Where your bolt is located in the photo is WELL after the point where the magazine is involved in the feeding cycle. Unless something is getting hung up between the mag and a flute on the bolt (which I doubt) I think you have a different issue.

The only other thing I can suggest is call GAP tomorrow. Get in touch with Caleb Ash, and see if he can give you any ideas.
I contacted kevin lin over there. He recommended i open the front of the feed lips. Did that and still didn't work.
Did you send Ken the same picture?
In the photo, your front bolt lug is at the edge of the ejection port. At that point, the bolt is completely covering the magazine well. If that's where it's hanging up, I don't see how the magazine could be the issue - but there could be something I am missing.
I'd still say call them tomorrow, and send them the same photo you posted here.
If it's catching/"binding" at this point only with ammo then I bet it's not actually binding. I willing to bet it's a sharp edge on the chamfer leading into the chamber or a lack of chamfer with a sharp edge that your cases are catching on. Check to see if you shaving a bit of brass off of the cases. I've had this issue in the past.
I do see some brass shavings in the area. I will pm you. Dont want to flood the thread anymore with my problem.
@jb41291 did you ever figure it out? No worries in flooding the thread man should someone go searching for the same issue and doesn't have an account it will lead them to this thread. I had my breeching ring polished a while back from GAP because it was marring my brass i'm wondering if that is the cause, if brass is getting hung on it.
