I would love to take one of these for a spin, with 900hp in outboards it should really haul ass. They're also armed to the teeth with 6 FN240's and have armoured hulls.

I don't believe that it can run in a foot of water, but it's still a sweet ride, and they shouldn't come across anyone that they cannot outrun or outgun.

I hope that thing was donated by someone because I’m not sure I see the logic behind buying one boat for $600,000 instead of 20 $30000 boats when they need to patrol an area that long.

But, I guess their cool toys come out of our pockets so, maybe the logic was that since someone else was footing the bill why not buy something crazy and pointless like that.

The Rio Grande is only a couple hundred yards wide if that. It wouldn’t take a dingy with a trolling motor long to get across it. Hell, you can swim across it.

Having a larger presence with more boats would be more effective than a single boat even if that one boat is as ridiculous as this one.

I've walked across it countless times and as a kid none-the-less.

Outgun maybe, but I imagine most bass boats would leave that pig like it was sitting still.

Re: Texas Building It's Own Navy

+1 on the bass boats leaving that this at the starting line.

Hang a 225 or a 250 on a 21'er and at the hole shot you'll be well ahead. And you'll do 70+ mph. O/C on rough water 70 mph in a bass rig gets...ummm interesting...

However, I'm all for doing what ever it takes to keep the borders sealed and safe.

Re: Texas Building It's Own Navy

hell, it will keep up with most bass boats on the market. according to some of the reviews of the YellowFin34 which is what that boat is, they are seeing high 60's with the 275 verado. the boat is also rated for triple 350's. i dont think they will have a problem with this boat

Instead of a wall we should dig a trench, fill it with oil, and light it on fire. That keeps the petroleum companies happy, and lets see someone swim across.

Re: Texas Building It's Own Navy

My opinion is the US Navy should be patrolling the border waters. The only issue there is our President doesnt think there is a border problem. This leaves us with having our Governor to fend for himself. Thus we now have a Navy in Texas. I think Ted Nugent will be the Capitan of the first boat...

Well Now parks and Wildlife is out gunned and shown up, can't wait to see the pissing match that boat causes. Hell the LCRA has better boats the TPWD.

Oh, they'll be getting more of them....

580k for ONE boat... But like someone said, it's not their money, they don't care. I'm with allwheeldriven, why not buy TWENTY 30k boats, mount a few m240s on there, and put MORE people on the ground/water...since that seems to be their goal.
"If you're trying to suppress organized smuggling activity, there's no substitute for putting people on the ground," said McCraw.

But then it brings up another point...why does the HIGHWAY PATROL need m240s!? That's a serious question guys, I really want to know. I won't pretend to know anything about what they do, but I just can't think of a situation that would warrant needing A m240, let alone six of them.

Re: Texas Building It's Own Navy

Just another waste of taxpayer money but, is that not the true end game anyway? If you ask me, a bounty, or dead or alive, on dirt bags would be more effective, but here again it's not about stopping crime. It's about you felling good about them wasting the tax money, they demand/force you pay.

The 240's are for killing baddies, what else? What's your problem w/ that?

Re: Texas Building It's Own Navy

What we need to do down here is to DMZ the border. In the town I live in security on ports of entry is a fucken joke. Just two weeks ago we had Mexican military drive into the US about 800 yards from the bridge and turn back. They commented that they were lost. This is the third time this has happened. I personally think they are testing our reaction to them doing this. On another occasion a f..ken Mexican " marina" military helo landed in our airport. They said they got lost. Do you believe this. But we like to keep Mexico happy "NAFTA".

Re: Texas Building It's Own Navy

For how porous our borders are one cork doesn't seem sufficent. Although any step in the right direction is progress. I'll bet the mexican "marina" won't get "lost" anywhere near this river battleship.

    Couldn't agree more.

    NO SIR!

The local joke in some parts of south Texas is as soon as the 18' wall is built there is a large number of 19' ladders being sold or stolen.

I vote for a comfy "elevated box blind" every mile. Staff it 24/7 with military, law enforcement, even licensed hunters. You can figure out the rest. Eventually the pile will get large enough that new ones will get the picture and quit attempting to trespass into Texas.

Think Texas would beat out Arizona in the headlines?
