If you don't want to post this on an open forum, drop me a PM. Where are you from? How far are you willing to travel? Would it be only you? How much hunting experience do you have, and what types? The big question I'd like to know is what are your expectations of "prairie dog hunting". I shoot at some places, and have some places to shoot, but it's not the kind of P-dog hunting like in some places where you go and shoot hundreds of rounds, all day afair kind of thing. If that's what you're looking for, you pretty much aren't gonna find it in West Texas, or the people that do have it are not willing to let some strange just get in on it. Just curious what your expecations are, and what you're looking for. Best of luck.

Re: Texas Prairie Dog Hunting?

Some friends and I were just wanting to get together and do a bunch of shooting over a weekend. I used to have a place to go in the panhandle that had a big dog town on it but all the dogs disappeared a few years back. I looked at some places online but they wanted a thousand plus per gun. We don't mind paying a bit to hunt but I think a thousand a gun is a little crazy.

I have also been looking in the panhandle (with little luck). There are tens of thousands of prarie dogs between Lubbock and Levelland. I found a guy at one time that wanted about $500/gun. He would take you out, put you in a tower, and feed your group lunch. There was a minimum group size and he said to bring around 1,500 rounds (no rimfire allowed). I couldn't ever get enough people together. I also can't bring myself to paying $500 to shoot at prarie dogs.

I'm in the same boat. My brother-in-law and I are looking for a weekend shoot, if it's close enough, we might bring the kids. We're looking for something around interstate 40 from OKC to New Mexico. There's got to be somebody that wants to get rid of some prairie dogs...
