The APA PARAGON destruction video series

Re: The APA PARAGON destruction video series

From the looks of it, price tag is worth it. How much does the optic add, $2500? That sand test gave me chills watching you sling the bolt open and slam it back shut. Looking forward to the next rounds of testing, gun is hold up well Jered

And now the 7500 lbs truck vs the Paragon:

Re: The APA PARAGON destruction video series

Jered is one stand up guy, and is very passionate about his work. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this rifle now if the funds were available at the moment. He has convinced me of the pride and work he puts into this thing.

Couldn't have said it better. +1

Or even a Chassis like the AX, AICS, or W3.

Re: The APA PARAGON destruction video series

A Chassis probably would have helped that test but overall I think for accuracy reasons you are better off with a good bedding job. I personally prefer a conventional stock which Tom's is. I've never been a big chassis person personal but that's neither here nor there. They have a place. That stock put up with a lot. We knew it was going to break on round two and stated that. The stock took the impact but the latch came undone. When it rolled with the stock open it just snapped it off. There are some pretty big rocks where it landed the second time.

Man I should have shot that deer!

Just kidding.........but if he had 150" or more of antler on his head he would be at my taxidermist currently.

Re: The APA PARAGON destruction video series

Slightly impressive my ass! Where was that video shot? Hollywood (there was some sweet trick photography, just kidding) because it dosent look much like GA.

All I can say is its a damn good thing you videoed that, because I would not have beleved you. A stock broke in half and holding zero... I never saw you have to adjust for POI shift. Did you get any during this last test?

Again I am more impressed with each video, good job. Are there going to be more test?

Re: The APA PARAGON destruction video series

Out-freaking-standing work, Jered!!

That rifle continues to impress to say the least and, since it appears that my semi-auto budget for the 2Q-4Q of 2013 may have to get put to other uses...I may have to twist my own arm into a Paragon.

Keep up the fine work (and shooting too of course)!

Re: The APA PARAGON destruction video series

No we definitely lost our zero but we were close enough to get it back on quick.
I missed the first shot so I zeroed it in the little white circle I could see impact in.
We lost our zero again on the second drop. It went hard right. You were looking at the second shot at the base of the target after drop test two. The video was already long so I was trying to shorten it some.

Trust me when you through your rifle out of an aircraft and it lands in a pile of rocks it's going to knock the zero off.

We have knocked the scope off 4 times.
1st when we put a bullet in it.
2nd when we drove over it with a 7500 lbs truck
3rd & 4th were throwing it out of the helicopter.

All in all I'd say that's acceptable. It was brought back on target very easily each time and for the most part held it's zero.

I have the stock somewhat put back together with Gorilla glue and 5 minute epoxy. I didn't use any gunsmith tools at my disposal. I wanted to do a field repair and see what happen. I'll shoot it for a final evaluation but anything we do from here is going to break the stock again.

Re: The APA PARAGON destruction video series

Jered,
What is it about the bedding that you believe will make it better for accuracy compared to a chassis? Is it that the bedding is "fit" to that exact action?

I've had plenty of both and haven't notice much, if any, difference in accuracy.

Plus, over time the bedding can degrade... can't it?

Re: The APA PARAGON destruction video series

I thought you must of lost the zero, but I was not sure b/c of seeing the 2nd shot. Still its impressive to me that you were able to hold the zero with a busted up stock. When its all said and done are you going to do an autopsy so we will know the extent of the damage?

Re: The APA PARAGON destruction video series

A proper bedding job is a perfect stress free invironment for the rifle. I've built tons of chassis that shot fantastically well but there is a reason people aren't setting world records with them. Its really all relative to the job and expectation at hand.

I do plane on an autopsy and overview.

That's what I thought... it is true that over time the bedding will need to be re-done though isn't it? Especially if used in harsh environments.

Re: The APA PARAGON destruction video series

Again, Great series of tests Jered. Proven that if you only use quality materials and a quality builder, you'll turn out a quality product. I cannot believe that you taped that gun back together and shot it! This rifle has proven to be worth every penny. Just gotta remember not to drop it out of the chopper the second time!

Re: The APA PARAGON destruction video series

I did do a final test but I was waiting on Shot Show to launch the video. It basically has the entire series wrapped up in one plus the end results. Some of the guys will be using it at the Show. I'll launch it publicly the day before the show starts. The rifle is now in one piece and believe it or not is shooting pretty damn well. How I don't know but it is.

Re: The APA PARAGON destruction video series

The rifle will be at the USO booth if you want to stop by and check it out. I'm not going to make it this year. My wife is going to have our little girl any day now. You know if I get on the plane as soon as I get boots on the ground I'm going to get "that phone call".

I second that. Congratulations, way to start the new year

Re: The APA PARAGON destruction video series

Ok here is the final video that really just encompasses the entire test but also adds on the final test at the end. I used 5 minute epoxy and Gorilla glue to stick it back together. Zero smithing tools. As a matter of fact it wouldn't go all the way back together but it is in one piece and firing. The results are in........
