Hunting & Fishing The big dawgs are coming out!

Headed to Boca Grand for some big snook. We'll see what happens when they run into 250 lbs braid with an 8/0 owner hook attached to it. Normally they don't react well but pulling those monsters out from under a dock takes that kind of gear
to do it on a somewhat normal basis and yet they still brake you off on the pilings if they have an attitude.



I'll post the results when I get back!

Here are the results. The night time photos are horrible but that's all I have.


The was the largest snook that made it in the boat. The photo really doesn't do him one bit of justice. 37 lbs, 45.5" long to the fork of the tail and 25" of girth.
I could have put my head in his mouth.




40" snook




30 something inches........didn't measure him but the double hook up was worth posting the photo.



Big tarpon. We didn't measure be she isn't small.

We didn't get too many photos of the night stuff because there was way too much going on so only the larger snook made the photo's. We were boat flipping 35" fish with the gear we had. We busted off 6 monsters that had other plans than coming to the boat.
I hooked one beast that was larger than the 45" snook. I never in my life thought a snook could brake 200 lbs leader without wrapping up in something but this guy did. I felt like I was going to puke for about an hour. I doubt I'll ever have one that big on my line again. Once snook get 35" or so they don't get a hole lot longer they just start getting big. I could have put the head of the 40" snook in the 45"ers mouth. Probably could have put my head in there. A 50"er just scares the crap out of you when he comes to the boat and crushes your heart into a million pieces when you watch him bust off.

That tarpon photo with all the rain was an epic morning. There is no way we should have be on tarpon like we were. The weather was absolute crap. We didn't think we would jump 1 tarpon let alone over 30 in 3 hours.
That would be pretty hard to top by anyone's standards.

Permit and tarpon are on my bucket list. Summer steelhead is warming up in the PNW, so that will have to keep me busy until then.

They are both equally exciting but they both can be a pain if you can't catch them right. Wait til the permit turns sideways on you. It's hard to believe that fish can pull like that. It's like trying to pull a disk through the water.
