The correct short action magazine for the correct 6.5 Creedmore COAL length

I am brand new to long distance shooting and rifles. So maybe I can receive advice from
Some Folks On this site. I have researched and purchased what I believe to be the best parts to build what I think would meet my needs to Own and use a very good 6.5 Creedmore bolt action rifle that allows for hunting, shooting at the range and to develop better Shooting skills. It cost me a lot of time and $ and I met and spoke to great people who were fantastic and helpful. Then I organized abuild plan and put it all to work. I am Happy And have no complaints with the rifle that I received a few months ago . But my wife is not. ——The rifle has a Remington 700 SA “clone” TL3 CRF receiver from Bighorn and AICS bottom metal. But the Hornaday ammo I wanted has a COAL of 2.800 and I am Only finding SA AICS Metal magazines that go up to 2.870 COAL . If anyone can help it would be very much appreciated. I am sure there are excellent high quality long distance cartridges that can fit into a SA AICS for 6.5 Creedmore. If it helps I have a 22” Bartlein #14 Varmint Sandaro Barrel with a 1/8 twist and believe this build can handle 130-145 grain bullets. Like I said I am a rookie and Learning as I go. Any advice Would Be greatly appreciated.

The AICS mags are the best the extra clearance is not something you should be worried about. If you start reloading you can use that extra length to seat the bullet out further

If you need more length, I've had good luck with the MDT no binder plate 12 round mags, but if you aren't planning to load long, I agree with above. Stick with the AIs.

I’m pretty sure that all “aics” mags can’t exceed the specs that are approved by the European regulatory body CIS which is similar to our saami so they’ll all be the same size.

If you buy Factory Hornady Ammo you will be fine with Factory AICS mags.
Best advice anyone can give you....Your next purchase needs to be a level 1 precision rifle class. You will learn more in that time than you will waste $ at the range trying to figure out on your own.

This is a classic problem where guys build a rifle on what they think is the right sized action when they really need the next longer action.

My F-Class gun is based on a short action Rem 700 and I cannot eject a live round without pulling the bolt. I can forget about feeding that competition load from a mag. Never gonna happen.

What I should have done along with the Op is build the gun on a long action instead.

I recently built a 223 on a short action Rem 700 clone to be sure I have enough length to run 88s, but I still had to modify mags for them to feed. Thankfully guys running a 308 bolt face can build on actions and mags long enough for a 30-06. That way you have plenty of room to grow.

Extra mag length is not going to affect function. If you’re really looking for a shorter mag, the plastic AICS pmags is an option.

An AICS short action mag for the 6.5 Creed the 280 is a long action. You can use the Magpul mags but the gold standard is AICS.

Your factory rounds are roughly 2.80 and most AICS mags are at least 2.87 coal +/- with the binder plate depending on manufacturer.

You’re making it way to complicated. Factory rounds will fit in any factory SA magazine. Just go shoot. You won’t have a problem.

Thank you I read the specs from Hornaday on they are 2.89 COAL and MDT website SA magazines are 2.70 per their website. I am Learning as I go all advice is appreciated. I would prefer quality metal AICS magazines. BTW to all of you here in NY we cannot have a magazine that holds more Then 10 rounds in any firearm. Thanks for All The help. Dan

And your info from MDT is also wrong so go back and read it again.

I have read the a long action magazine needs to Be custom fit and prepped For for Proper fit in SA bottom Metal
so it can go into battery. See below as to why I am Asking questions . I copied from Hornaday and MDT.

2.87 is longer than 2.80....so your factory round will fit in the mag. You don't have a problem.

Have you actually tried it?

Pretty sure any common factory ammo will fit in any AICS mag. Afterall its a 6.5CM, you would be hard pressed to find a combo that doesn't work.

It depends on the bottom metal. This isn't a mag vs ammo compatibility issue. Do you use a bottom metal that fits an AICS mag? In your first post you said you did. Who's building your gun? You should call them and have them walk you thru it.

Well It appears I can use the SA with binder. I just got the rifle Back and it has a Greyboe stock with their bottom metal. In fact Ryan from Greyboe just texted me the magazine they use for their shop 6.5. is the MDT Short action polymer hybrid with the metal top.
