It was my first Guardian & first time at Pigg River.
Both Gary Larson (Guardian) and Josh Brandy (Pigg River) deserve great praise for putting on a fantastic match with a great vibe. Both these Guys are a class act.
@BLKWLFK9 - I spend a ton of time in the car & enjoy the podcasts.
Something you didn't mention about this match. It was a 2 day + train up Friday & over the entire weekend not 1 piece of steel went down. There were back up targets at most ranges, but not needed. This is my first year shooting PRS and this was my first time shooting a mtach where the range was never called cold to fix a target
I took advantage of the train up Friday & it was well worth it. New Archimedes on my rifle in 6GT & dope wasn't working out at intermediate ranges on Friday? Josh Lemon who did the train up said lets throw my magneto on there. Sure enough I was down 30fps from what I chrono'd @ see lvl the week before??? Josh said he was down about 30fps also. It was right before range cold Friday so I could prove adjusted dope.
I was scratching my head all Friday night wondering how the fuck an altitude change could have an effect on internal ballistics. Laying in bed at the hotel Friday night a light bulb went off & I thought well fuck that was a different magneto.........my dope (now adjusted for reduced MV) might be all fucked up now. Got up and went to the zero range early with my Magneto & sure enough I was within 3fps avg MV compared to Josh's. The dope worked out well for the match & I shot pretty good. Had a few rounds leftover from the match that I shot over the magneto @ my home range Sat.
Still down 25 FPS so I replayed the tape. What did I do different. Barrel had 450 rounds before Guardian & I did a thorough cleaning before the match, including using Iosso on a nylon brush for the throat. That's got to be where the 30 fps went. Reduced pressure from carbon removal. The gun was consistent before and after the cleaning & was not showing any pressure signs at all before cleaning. This may not be enlightening to a lot of you guys but I learned something. Carbon will not be allowed to build up in my barrels going forward.
I also ate shit on the prone stage. I chalk that up to luck of the timing when I shot vs wind & my lack of wind experience.
