Great to see that Brett has finally been able to get out and enjoy the warm weather and break in his new CDX-MC Kraken 308 Win! He love it so far that he planned on ordering other barrels for this beast.

Do these cadex rifles accept prefit barrels and does anyone offer them?
Nope, you can get a replacement barrel direct from cadex all they need is the serial number to find your headspace. That being said, they only have a Bartlein or a in house barrel option and no contours/colors to choose from. Other than that if you want to put a different barrel on that you need a blank and a gunsmith.

That’s a no-go for me. When Cadex can fix this I would be interested. AI, SaKo, Tikka, and many others can do it.

Never put a $50 saddle on a $10,000 horse. And vice versa.
I’ve seen guys that can’t hit Jack Shit with a crap scope on a $3k rifle, OTOH I have made several 3/8” 5 round groups with a Stevens action on a bipod and shooting mat (no bench, bench rest or sand bags) topped with a NF 5.5-22.

Damn straight, a shitty rider can fuck up a 10k horse with a 3K+ saddle in a heartbeat.

It's a shame Cadex doesn't publish their Tennon specs so gunsmiths can spin up prefits for their rifles.

Keeping it a secret only hurts Cadex.

Not completely true. If you have the R7 you can do a sporter barrel contour or the Cadex contour. Also you can choose carbon fiber or stainless and of course barrel length options. All the replacement barrels are offered in their standard colors. Chambering options are also limited to their standard offerings.

Unfortunately by no means is it open source for other smiths to build pre fits for (of course neither is the AI if you ask them).

But those Cadex barrels f-ing hammer!

Was just going by what cadex told me a while back, nothing wrong with the original barrel on the cadex either like you say it shoots light out! Just wish for a heavier contour. I was told no color other than black and surely no stainless.

Its my understanding that they stopped doing a lot of the custom options because it destroyed their delivery times last year. The price book does state that standard color options are available for the replacement barrels, so I assume that to be accurate.... But like you say, there aren't many options.

We are giving them a solution for those that want custom options: open source their tennon prints so gunsmiths can support the platform.

Win-win-win. Cadex gets more business, the customers get more options for the platform, and gunsmiths get more options/work.

Nobody loses.

I agree with you, I'm just quoting from their catalog. I'm certain there are smiths out there that have already figured the tenon out as there are custom rifled Cadex actions out there (at least the shouldered barrels - on the Kracken, probably not). Just like AI hasn't officially released their drawings either but they are out there non the less.

AI certainly doesn't seem that excited about the aftermarket industry. I get it though, AI has built a reputation for reliability because they control 100% of the parts and processes that goes into their rifles.

And I'm sure that Cadex is trying to do something similar. But I think they are losing market share due to that approach. I would bet that making their tennon prints open source (as long as they are holding their tolerances to high enough levels), would instantly increase their market share in the precision rifle world.

AI has the advantage of being around for a long time, with many of their rifles in the hands of Americans and gunsmiths having the opportunity to see many AI's. That takes a lot of time.

The barrels were a no go for me as well when I was looking at Cadex as well as AI and Sako

The biggest downside is it’s taken so long for Cadex to realize this that there’s a plethora of barrels and AI’s available in the px here that many can just go that route for way cheaper if they come across them

I also don’t understand why you post high end weapons with bottom end accessories. Then post it here where we dissect every pic we see

It looks like it’s being marketed to guys who just want the looks.

Like advertising a new plate carrier then decking the rest of your model out with Walmart airsoft accessories. Add smoke machines and some treacherous looking background and really try to sell it

Almost everyone's criteria these days when buying a new rifle/action is if it takes pre-fits or not. Just look at any thread where people are seeking advice on a new rifle or action.

The exclusion of this feature excludes a lot of potential customers of the product.
This is so true. I just got back from my garage after removing a barrel off my tenacity with very simple tools in a matter of minutes. And am currently waiting for a pre-fit replacement that’ll take a few days to get here, doesn’t get better than that. That being said the CDX-R7 is one hell of a nice action with the 50 degree throw.

I've got zero hope that other barrel manufacturers will pursue pre fits for the Kracken. I am very hopeful that the other actions leak out in sufficient quantity that pre fits become available at some point. @kthomas you are 100% correct that it would be a good thing for Cadex in the long run. I'd imagine that corporate lawyers make sure to scare the death out of companies based on the liability of them actually acknowledging the possibility. The build quality and attention to detail that Cadex is putting into the product is definitely top notch, and I feel like they are doing a better job of innovating at the moment than AI - no offense to the fanbois!

I don't know where to start on this one. My mother always said if you can't say anything nice...so great photography?

Might I ask when where you told this? all of our colors are available and at the same price unless it is a battle worn finish.

A lamborghini with a $20 ebay cold air intake and $.05 hose clamps.

The way you all dump on new shooters is not cool. Do you all think everyone can afford to go all tier one in the first step? At least he is out shooting and getting into our sport

No........the glass mounts and bipod. you must have missed the "all" part

When you choose to pimp your products and make such a bold statement as calling your own products what you did in the title meanwhile the rifle has garbage acc's on it, you should expect some criticism. "Not everyone can afford it" isn't an excuse when we're talking about $7500 rifles.

You seem to not understand that we share our customer's photos. He was the one that called it a Lambo........

We support our customers and share what they tell us. And if you think that just cause he had the cash for our rifle he must have the cash for a TT etc etc or just tossed it on a card....... Some people do Budget themselves
