There is another option Pierce 800 series action requires a 1. 350 OD Shank Tenon is 1.187 16 TPI it is between the L and the M Bat action that way you saved on weight but still have an action that can handle even the 375 cheytac size caseQuestion - (since most Bart's barrells are a year out). If this post should be somewhere else, let me know and I'll move it.
thinking KOM here with a 33XC and the 26# weight MAX. I was thinking of going with a BAT action. There are two to choose from.
BAT model M and model L. The Model L requires a 1.5 barrel vs 1.25 on the Model M. Also, if a person wants to move up to 37xc or CheyTec - you can use the Model L
BAT actions:
BAT Model L –
load port opening 3.8 ;tenion 1.25”needs 1.5” barrelBat Model M –
load port opening 3.35 ;tenion 1 1/8”,needs a 1.25 barrel1.25 barrels seem easier to come by a possible cheaper (and a little less weight)
I was leaning towards the model L, in case a person wanted to jump up to 37XC or Larger.
Thoughts?
reason; I'll probably order the barrel before the action, due to wait time.
Thanks in advance
Both are excellent and popular cartridges. I shoot 33xc.Hi,
I was wondering what everyone's thoughts were on these new cartridges?
What bullet are you planning on running?I got a little crazy and decided to go way over bore. I'm building a 30XC with a 32" mod bb. I've got N570 and H50 but no access to quickloads so I was looking for some input for where to start on load development and powder choice between the two
Specs on that barrel
Thanks Greg does great work!View attachment 7991741
I'd go a little heavier on the taper next time, Greg at Southern Precision wasn't happy with how close it was to the rail and tapered it down a bit. With the flutes it came in at 8.3 lbs finished, so puts the rifle at 24lbs or so, so plenty of room for the elr light class.
I am pulling this statement. I just realized the bullet used was not the original to take the virgin measurements. The Badlands only grew .031 and .016. First time using multiple solids in 1 barrel. Past experience has been w WFL only...Why am i not getting a linear measurement? I am thinking the diameter or angle of the driving bands?Caution! I know there’s no replacement for displacement! Lost .185 of throat erosion w N570 and solids.. 117 rounds down the tube w a modBB barrel. Time to switch up powders and rework a load. RL33/H50 to slow down throat erosion.
Contact WTO in Texas, I know they chamber and do load development for the 30XC.
245 Bergers at 3350+ would be a laser though
Yes, but on a .30 cal in my .300NM.Has anyone else experienced Badlands pressuring out earlier than the Warners? I know the bearing surface is longer on the Badlands.
Are you talking about a seating die or press ? 21st centry for the press. Warner tool for the seating dieAnyone make 37xc in line seater?
ETA For a 375 cal round; a custom seating plug is required. Maybe Wilson would make the plug for you.Anyone make 37xc in line seater?
How is the 30xc holding up? I found it interesting that you wanted to run a 30XC over a 33XC. I am looking at the 33XC for my next build. Until then I am running a 32" 8tw SS Proof chambered in 30 Sherman Mag. I am running the 245gr Berger Hybrids @3040fps using RL33 and fire formed lapua brass. My average barrel life with both proof and bartlein is 1100 before starting to go to hell. I hope to get about the same out of a 33XC.It took forever to get this barrel otherwise I’d order a 7tw to run solids. I should have thought it out a little more
Impressive. What do you think your barrel life is going to be? If not the greatest it would still make one hell of a long range elk hunting rifle.I easily hit 3400 with the 245’s but the bolt was sticky and showed a little too much growth on the web so I settled just over 3300. It obviously shoots really flat and I had a 4th round hit at 2309 yds. Misses were extremely hard to spot. It took 22 mils of elevation at that distance. First round hit at 1950. After about 55 rounds it was dirty enough to increase the pressure so much that the bullets over spun and came apart in flight. I’m using an 8tw barrel so I’m roughly 297,000 revs. Quick clean and it was shooting lights out again. During load development I ended with a 1” group at 400.
I quit smoking and drinking to support my shooting passion. Well worth the expense.Gotta pay to play
Yes sir, so they tell me. Still hurts, especially when your barrel comes in north of $1100.Gotta pay to play
It’s fun shooting a hot rod but my next build will hopefully have better barrel life
There are cheaper optionsYes sir, so they tell me. Still hurts, especially when your barrel comes in north of $1100
There are cheaper optionsLOL.. but you're talking quality.. so, yup $$$$$$$
I was thinking of theTrue that. Some of the cost was the Mod BB, I had to have it recontoured, then fluted to meet light ELR weight. I've ordered up my next barrel direct so I've got the contour right and no fluting.
What are you buying to cost that?Yes sir, so they tell me. Still hurts, especially when your barrel comes in north of $1100.![]()
