The "New" Barrett MRAD Thread!!!!!!

I'll be honest, Im really thinking I prefer my MRAD over my AI AX. Idk yet, gonna take some time. The trigger is a hell of a lot better, action is near as smooth, I had bad buyers remorse at first but it went out the window as soon as I opened that pelican case...
Trigger a “hell of a lot better”???? Lol you must be smokin the good stuff, the trigger is not better than the Ai, let alone “a lot”

MRAD trigger is way better come on man . AI triggers were made from musket balls that were dug out from the asses of redcoats returning home from that ass kicking.

It’s not even close to better lol Ai is the most reliable trigger in the game, not to mention how crisp it is, I can’t see how the batter trigger is better when the Ai trigger is the most reliable trigger in the field. If I had to trust a trigger out in the field it’s Ai all day over the MRAD so I don’t see how the MRAD has a better trigger.

Once the military has all the new MRADs out in field the body count will prove how good the weapon system is. 🇺🇸

hold a minute who said the weapon system isn’t good????????? I sure as hell didn’t, but it is NOT as good as Ai and plenty of threads and plenty of polls of people with both prove it. Nobody said the system isn’t top of the line, but it’s not better than the axmc, and just because the military chose it doesnt mean it’s the best, how many military or other use Tangent Theta and Zero Compramise?? they are the best on the market no questions asked but yet leupold is equipped more by military, so is Leupold better than TT......? I mean come on now.

But Barrett didn't have a trigger fail during the ASR testing, AI did.

Its all subjective anyway to the user what is the best rifle and if the shooter has the skill set to use the tool to get the most out of it. Military contracts for weapons is political in nature and not a standard for the best, what it does give you is a standard for how long it will last, flaws and how it functions in the worst conditions. I almost purchased an AXMC before the MRAD but I wasn't a big fan of the molded grip on the stock which they changed on the AXSR which was a very good design change I believe. I would also add it difficult to compare the both since they are totally different in design but they both operate the same, pull the trigger bullet leaves the muzzle and some poor bastard dies for his country as Patton put it.

Funny, I actually chose the axmc over the axsr because I liked the grip better and the look of the axmc. Guess it just shows that it’s all so subjective

New AT-X also got rid of that 'meh' AI grip as well

not having to pay ±$500 to change grip form factors
is a no-brainer improvement
The colour matching grip looks a lot better to me and I have no problem with the feel of it, some didn’t like it but I find it perfectly fine. And the sex appeal is better with the matching colour grip 🤷🏻

What's the process for the caliber swap on the AXSR? I live in dusty AZ and the Barrett "dust cover" for the bolt is a big deal for me. I also grew up on AR's and my muscle memory likes the MRAD setup.

I believe its one screw to untighten then unscrew the barrel and replace it along with the bolt.

Curious if this is for a commercial purpose? If it is, why not just buy one?

We already have AX338 / 300WM and 308 magazines, the long action pouch wasn't specifically designed FOR the MRAD, this is purely to compare the AXMC and MRAD mags to see if there are any major differences.

MRAD: L = 102 W= 34 H = 102
AXMC: L = 100 W= 30 H = 108

Also, getting an MRAD magazine in Australia isn't often as easy. Only a handful of people would own the rifle due to the high base price and suppliers often are out of stock.

It'll be really interesting to see what the final auction price for this is. It's the only "non-SMR" MRAD on GB. It's the quick-change-barrel and folder version ... basically impossible to find right now. Any guesses? My official estimate is $8,900 ... but that might be low.

I gotta laugh at the seller description of offering: "first-class photography.....We offer one of the best consignment rates on the web at just 15%! This rate includes all fees associated with preparing your firearms for sale." The photos of this item are poorly lighted and I'm curious if this is a consignment item? If it is, I've seen better lighting and photography here on the Hide. For a 15% commission, I'd expect a lot better.

So am I reading this right? An auction within an auction?

There are 2 others on GB with buy now prices cheaper then $8900.00 .

I've seen some of the better run auctions where the items are sold live on the internet and have been posted for months ahead of time, complete with well photographed images in mailed catalogs and on the auction website. For someone with a large collection to liquidate, this is the way to go. Live bidding has that psychological advantage that tends to drive the price up.

Fees collected by the auctioneer will be dictated by the final price and in some cases that can be worse that the 15% that this particular auctioneer charges. Once the price reaches a particular threshold, the % cut to the auctioneer goes down to a lower tier level.

Just went through them. There's one for $15K, and another for $19K (with 3 barrels) ... the others are all SMR's. Where are you seeing non-SMR MRAD's for lower prices. There are a couple of "ambiguous" listings that don't specifically say "SMR", but show it in photos. And another that appears to be a MRAD, but lists the caliber as 50 BMG ... which doesn't exist for a MRAD.

Everyone needs to make a buck ... that's "Capitalism".

There's this one which is a folder and the other one I saw must of sold but it was camo print on the entire rifle that was listed at the same price. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/902308557

Interesting ... my search on "Barrett MRAD" doesn't pull that one. Hard to understand how someone expects to get $6,500 in an auction with crappy photos and no description.

Don't know how this became another cat fight over "Capitalism" b.s. The point is/was that the seller on gb is not doing the client any favors with those lousy pictures and the huckster car salesman approach.

I know enough about studio lighting and portrait photography to critique those crappy photos. I've also dealt with auctioneers that do a hell of a lot better job of presentation. If I'm going to pay 15-20% commissions, I at least want a professional that knows how to run an auction and take pictures. Has nothing to do with capitalism, and most here on the Hide shoot better pictures with their smart phones.

I was just being "snarky". No offense intended, and I agree that this is a 100% crappy GB presentation. When I sell on GB, I take great pains to ensure the pictures are helpful, and the description is comprehensive. All my feedback there is 100% positive because I pay attention to the details.

Snarky on this end also, but with a little more vinegar:)..............I guess the photo thing is a touchy point for me as I've done some portraiture, pin up/model photography with a professional photographer. Make up and lighting are everything to the final success of a portfolio.

Anything I put up for sale I really like to make clear to the buyer with photos.

Congrats on the 100% on gb, as few do a good job in descriptions and photos. I kinda have given up on gb with the last few transactions being not so great. One guy even threatened me with lawyer emailing me. Didn't like my review. A first for me as a buyer.

Were you the pin up / model or did you take photos of the pin up /model ?

Cmon guys, this stuff ^^ belongs in the AI thread 😂🤣

Has anyone successfully ordered and received a barrel from a smith using the makers kit ?
Yes! Bugholes.com made a Bartlien 300PRC barrel for me that is .25 MOA at 200 yards. He fluted it just like the factory one and added the Barrett Muzzle Brake. Pics a few pages back. He lives 30 minutes from Barrett and knows folks there that gave him the skinny on correctly interfacing with Makers kit. There are no flats on the collar which requires 200 ft-lbs of torque and a VERY specialized tool at the factory!!! He just machined flats in and refinished.

Waiting on some stuff to come in, have a couple barrel maker kits, barrels will be bartlein mod bb LH gaintwists. Just waiting on barrels and a reamer or two and then I'll let you know. Have a 6.5saum that will be coming from ga precision.

:D I shoulda seen that one coming..............Very good Sir and touche.

I was the one taking pictures and learning from a woman who specialized in 50's type pin up photography. She was a master of lighting and retired awhile ago. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot about what makes for good photographs. Most of the women do them for husbands/boyfriends. No porn.

Oh My, you definitely wouldn't want to see me as pin up. Totally gross, dude.

It sold for $8,100 ... I missed my official guess by $800.

Looking for scope mount recommendations. I have an MRAD (.308 and 300NM - .338NM possibly in the future) and just purchased a NightForce ATACR 7-35x56. I am open to recommendations for a mount - NF, Spuhr, etc.

I am extremely satisfied with my Spuhr in FDE bought from MileHighShooting. Painted my ATACR 7-35x56 to match. I like all the attachment points and the leveling tool works fantastic. Followed all the torque specs. Full disclosure: I'll probably never have a raptor but I like the look of the mount...Doh! I have 300PRC and 338NM.

Nice! How did you paint your scope? Cerakote?
