We are in agreement.... Looking back at those who settled the West over 200 years ago... What did they bring with them when they joined the wagon train ? Look at the items Lewis and Clark brought. I know, the West was different then, but they still had to survive.

Not exactly a shortage, but something that jumped out at me yesterday. 1 lb of Wal-Mart's store brand turkey lunchmeat for $8. If that is getting that inflated some people just may skip that purchase. What kind of domino effect might this type of thing kick off?

Still noticing reduced choices, reduced package sizing, and the same low spots we have had for months...juice, noodles, tater tots/fries, rice sides, biscuits, and lunchmeat.

Yep... Seeing the same thing. Had the girl's at the deli slice me some ham last week. I never thought twice about telling them how thick to cut it. Machine has been set on the same number for years. Got home and had to put 2 - 3 slices on my sandwich to make it right. I guess those Mom's with a bunch of kids are slicing the ham and cheese thinner to make food go farther. I remember my Mom doing that 60 years ago.... I ate my share of Vienna Sausage and cracker's too....

People are "hoarding" for a reason. With rampant printing of money and ongoing government frauds and scandals' being covered up by the media people are expecting trouble. I'm not a prepper, but I long ago stopped running out of things. From canned goods, to dry goods, clothing, shoes, oil, gas and diesel for my tractor I just expect to have 60 days worth anymore.

Socialism is a political system based on failure, shortage, stupidity, envy, greed and hate. These people have been in power less than 18 months and have created false shortages of vehicles, food, toilet paper, housing, fuel, energy, medicines, hospital beds, medical care, lumber, appliances, seafood and now precious metals.

If they can destroy America before November, then they have destroyed the best country on earth in two short years. One more election to defraud the country and we are done. Our enemies are in DC.

Can someone explain what they (Ukraine and/or Russia) did or how they can affect the world food supply? I don't get it.

Ukraine and Russia export wheat. The Russians are number one in wheat exports in the world. In 2020 Russia exported 39 million tons, the US 25 million tons. Add that to the fact this years crop yields are going to be down more than likely and you have the beginning of a large problem. Fertilizer and pesticide shortages plus huge cost increases started the problem, but the interruption in wheat exports for Russia and Ukraine should put a dent in things too.

Israel supposedly gets half of it's wheat from Ukraine, plus a good portion from Russia.

Here in the United States, we need to stop growing corn to make ethanol, and redirect it to food products.

Russia also exports a lot of fertilizer and provides gas to a German company that uses gas to manufacturer fertilizer. Both are now shutdown. China knowing this was coming, banned export of a fertilizer last year.

Went to the local Stihl dealer and they finally had a few saws in stock. They told me they can't get maintenance parts and certain model bars. Said they weren't sure when the next saws would be coming in or how many they'd get and they only had a few on hand. Don't know about you all but I don't want to cut firewood by hand. Ended up buying an MS661C and whatever extra parts they did have on hand to be my new primary saw over my old MS311. Then I promptly put it to work. My goal is to get up as much wood as possible this year.

Btw, the saw is amazing. Never had one run through wood so effortlessly. Only took about 45 minutes to zip through this 12" ash and 8" maple.

I needed some bolts today for my tractor implements. Went to my local Murdocks farm supply store. They sell bolts and nuts by the pound
($2.49 / lb)... Bins lining an entire wall and most were empty. Especially the size bolts farmers need for equipment... Like 1/2' x 2- 1/2" bolts or similar lengths. The help never came right out and said it but they hinted that they may not restock bolts, nuts and washers. After getting my stuff going I think it's best to go back and buy up some common size nuts and bolts. I've used my stock up in my shop.

I picked up a dozen + galvanized carriage bolts, nuts, & washers at the local HD. Got home and not a single bolt was in spec enough you could get a nut on it. NONE. You couldn't get a nut on holding it with a pair or pliers and a wrench. All made in china.

I would say that is not a bad thing........ All countries, including the USA need to stand on their own two feet first........ After that, let the commerce flow.

Get away from the "petro dollar" and go back to a gold standard for the common denominator in commerce trading... Or , just trade commodities straight across the board...
Today wheat is $365 / ton and oil is $101 / barrel.... Trade 3 barrels of oil for a ton of wheat.........

Will add my 2 cents. The Mrs. went to Trader Joe’s to get olive oil. One of the managers checked the availability and said, maybe after the 15th of the month, definitely by the end of the month! This is nuts! Out of olive oi!

We are doing our kitchen as it is way past its due date. Appliances are running at least a 9 month backlog. When we did get our refrigerator, the packing box was perfect, the top was caved in, door handles bent, & glass scratched. Back it went. Got no firm date on a replacement but we have a ‘loaner’ till ours comes in ……. again.

Corn being made into ethanol has very little effect on supply of food. The dried distiller grains are a by product and that is used to feed animals. So you get the ethanol and the feed. We need workers to slaughter animals and drive trucks. That’s where the shortages are.

As long as the $$$ printing presses are running wide open and people in America are being paid by the US Government to not work, there will be a shortage of workers. Hunger is a big motivating factor to get a man to go to work to feed himself. Tough love.
