the thing with Russia is that we share a parallel culture with similar values. Russia might not have been 'western european' or been part of the age of enlightenment that our Constitution was based on, but they were certainly influenced by the Greek culture and Orthodox Christianity of the Byzantines, and the code of morality and philosophy that went with it. Totally unlike Eastern religions or Islam, we have that in common. And the 70 year communist ordeal gave them a crash course in all the things that our founding fathers warned us about. They lived it in the recent past, while every American generation since 1776 only read about it. What they do with that experience, as time passes and memory fades, remains to be seen.

Even in a market based economy we could still see sweat shops like the video, without proper oversight. That's why we have certain government agencies in this country as well as others to make sure that industry is complying with proper standards.

There was a two-drug combination of antiretrovirals that was initially used in China during the beginning of their epidemic, called lopinavir and ritonavir, that was briefly and aggressively promoted due to researchers discovering that SARS-COV-2 and HIV share a segment of genetic sequences, but that treatment did not turn up to be successful. It was expected because coronaviruses are not retroviruses.
Another drug that had been primarily developed for treating both HIV and late stage breast cancer but is showing remarkable success in treating COVID-19 is called leronlimab, developed by CytoDyn Corporation. The most current research have showed that up to 95% of the fatal cases of COVID-19 were not due to the virus itself, but because of the patient's own immune system going haywire. Also known as a "cytokine storm", for some reason, the immune response of these people to the novel pathogen, and perhaps because it IS a novel pathogen that has not been encountered previously in the human population, goes into uncontrolled overdrive, attacking and killing healthy cells in the lungs along with the virus, and often continuing it's onslaught even when the virus had been cleared. Incidentally, the "cytokine storm" had also been the leading cause of fatalities during the 1918 influenza pandemic. Leronlimab is primarily an immune booster, but is also an advanced anti-inflammatory which has showed documented success in being able to cool down a cytokine response while continuing to allow the immune system to function regularly to combat the virus. So far, patients being treated with leronlimab has shown definite improvement and CytoDyn is donating millions of doses for clinical trial as well as emergency use. Leronlimab was one of the first drugs to be used in New York City hospitals along with the hydroxychloroquine + azithromycin regimen. Other anti-inflammatories that have demonstrated success in treating the complications of COVID-19 is the HIV drug Kaletra, as well as the cancer drug Tocilizumab, BOTH which has been APPROVED by the FDA for immediate emergency use in combating the current pandemic.

Preliminary data from right here in NYC is that African Americans and Hispanics had taken the overwhelming brunt of COVID-19 fatalities. Their neighborhoods have been the hardest hit. Incidentally, these two groups are the same ones that outright refused to abide by the social distancing guidelines set by Cuomo and the CDC and continued partying in massive groups or hanging out in the parks even as others around them began taking the necessary precautions to reduce spread. And shortly after the official NYC lockdown was proclaimed, cases in these neighborhoods exploded. African Americans and Hispanics also have a much higher rate of comorbidities and chronic health problems compared to others living in the same or nearby areas...
Orthodox Jews are the next group with the highest confirmed cases, but lower fatality rates than African Americans or Hispanics. The Orthodox community here also frowned upon the social distancing guidelines and continued to host synagogue and dinner services even as the outbreak arrived. City officials have threatened rabbis and others with severe fines if they did not stop gatherings. Going by the incubation period of this pathogen, most of the confirmed cases being registered now were actually contracted 1-2 weeks ago. With the strict social distancing guidelines set forth and implemented 2 weeks ago, it is expected that the rate of confirmed cases SHOULD be starting to fall now and it is going as expected. Cases in NYC and NY State overall have been dropping for the last 2 days.
