I'm currently in Canada, was supposed to finish one last hitch on the rig before my employment ends (my choice). Can't go to the rig anymore because I traveled internationally on the 15th, and I'm in "self quarantine".
Now I'm left with a choice, with no obvious answer (to me at least):
1. Attempt to travel to the US as soon as possible to be with the wife. At this point I will activate my green card, which will be a 2 year green card. That in itself has a lot of ramifications, they are a nightmare to renew and that potentially means years of unemployment and inability to leave the country after the 2 year expiry. Also increases my risk of contracting this disease, as I will be traveling through airports and on planes.
2. Wait it out in Canada with my immediate family until things start settling down. If I travel and activate my green card after April 1st, it will be a full 10 year green card (that's a huge plus). Minimal exposure to COVID-19. Risk is that things get a lot worse before it gets better, and either or both countries (Canada and US) go on complete lockdown. If I can't get to a border before June 2nd, my green card expires.
Lots of risk either way. Wish I had a crystal ball right now, I really don't know what's going to happen and what the best choice is. Things are changing by the hour.
