Incorrect. The rate identifier on his left sleeve is not clear but it is definitely an aviation rate. From the looks of it maybe Aviation Electronics's Mate. Also, the pin on his left breast is an aviation one, not sure which. My dealing with air dales was slim to none.</div></div>
Actually, if you do look closely he is an undesignated seaman. You are correct in the fact that since his E-3 strips are green, he is involved in aviation along with the fact that he does have the air warfare wings. However, that does not prevent him from being an aviation bosun's mate ABE, ABF, ABH and most likely a handler as I wouldn't trust that intellect around either fuels (ABF) or launch and recovery (ABE).
Besides, the comment about him being a bosun's mate was not a factual reference but more to illustrate that the only requirement to be a bosun's mate is to have a pulse. Now boats if you really want to argue about the reputation of BM's in the Navy, you know you will lose every time. They are known to not be the sharpest tools in the shed. </div></div>
You are indeed correct. Boatswain's Mate's are not usually the sharpest tools in the shed, but some of us chose to be there. Case in point, whenever the email server on board the ship I served on crashed they called me to fix it not the IT3 who went to the school for it. His lightbulb was a little dimmer than most of the guys in the IT rate.
Traditionally deck department gets the worst of the Navy. Sometimes, and I do mean sometimes people actually choose the rate for some unknown reason and stay there. I've served with BM's who scored 90+ on the ASVAB and those who scored a 31. But that guy in the video... wow. I wouldn't even let him near my damn UNREP rig in any manner aside from a line handler.
