No, it’s the all regulation is bad until it serves our purposes crowd, then they’re running to big daddy government like all the rest of them.
I will say since the whole c-word thing started I’ve seen more park rangers and cops on patrol around the areas I fish at, in the past 3 years I haven’t seen one game warden or ranger...been checked for a fishing license on my last two trips out, and it is in a remote area where you have to hike in to reach the water. They have nothing else to do, can’t really fault them for doing their jobs.
Well the Department of wildlife in Ohio does a lot more than fuck around with poachers.
ODF&G coupled with OSU school of veterinary medicine does a shit ton to maintain our state

It is possible to disagree with something in principle and still appreciate the practical and vice versa. I think Roosevelt (both of them) went entirely out of bounds. Practically, we are unique as a nation in at least having kept some of those places public. I don't agree with how it was done and most public lands shouldn't be. We do have some truly unique shit that I can at least appreciate the why. Not every thing is always black and white. Side note: everything Franklin D did was not only wrong but didn't serve any purpose beyond communist global bullshit.

Because you know that if you chat them up they might say something that you can use? Take a trip in your pov in civies and act like a normal person and then try and initiate that same contact. Most people will look at you like you're a Martian and some will probably tell you to fuck off. Most of the people believe that when you pull up in a patrol car and initiate contact that they are obligated to answer your questions. You know that your uniform, the way you speak, your stance and intimidating attitude puts you on a different level.
You know that and take advantage of the situation.

You keep saying the same thing over and over. Each time you ascribe bad intent on my part. I told you why I talk to them, I also told you what forms my enforcement actions take. Traffic tickets, dui arrests, and collision investigations. I’ve never asked a fisherman for their license, never written one a ticket related to their recreation, never checked their kreels for fish counts. I talk to them because I’m engaging the community. We also have hikers, hunters and sightseers here in abundance, and same goes for them. You know how many stinky and hungry PCT hikers I’ve given a ride into town? You want to believe so bad that I’m digging for dirt, and you’re wrong. They drink and drive, speed, or crash their cars, I’m all over it. You’re also dead wrong about how I’m received by the public. Not everyone thinks the way you do, and you can’t understand that, that’s why you’re an idiot. You’re the one who needs the self reflection.
Here’s picture of the beat I typically work. 600 sq/miles of Easter Sierra. Not a single traffic signal, and only handful of stop signs. Just a bunch of tourists doing stuff I’d be doing if I wasn’t on duty
Last year, right where this picture was taken, I encountered a young man that had just downed his first archery buck. He asked if I wanted to see it and I said hell ya. Turned out the lad had never field dressed a deer. I signed his tag for him, then held the rear legs and talked him through it. I even helped him drag it to his vehicle. One of the coolest things I’ve done on the job. Are you telling me I should have driven by because I saw no evidence of criminal activity? Fuck that. Not everyone hates the cops like you do, get it through your head.
