A "kid" named Mark Duggan (not really a kid, but the usual suspects are pretty much portraying him as someone who was turning his life around and a martyr, to boot, and representative of those failed by a government that can no longer afford the handouts of the past) was shot and killed by armed cops conducting, of all things, an exercise to "control firearms." The neighborhood youths went nuts, storefronts were broken into, things were stolen, and all the skells had a good time injuring 55 cops and torching all manner of buildings and vehicles.

Really, this just seems to be a summer of unrest everywhere, as the spigot of freebies slowly gets turned closed and those least capable of higher tasks and least willing to grab the next rung look for other means of "branching out," as I've heard it put. I don't mind Darwinism, but I'd much rather that they not involve the rest of us, thank you. After tomorrow, who knows?

Unfortunately, not so much in a basically disarmed (at least the law-abiding) society. The better question is this: how can you convince people who are used to sucking at the tit of cradle-to-grave welfare systems that they need to do something other than playing the system like a pinball game? I've lived, worked, and studied in a country with massive social supports and a gargantuan government, and it saps the willingness of those who work in entrepreneurial capacities to try any harder when so much of their profit goes to people who don't try at all, unless to figure out how to get even more for themselves.

I believe that we are going to see the exact same thing happen in cities all across the U.S. as the economic outlook worsens.

That is assuming Washington gets smart and cuts back on all the handouts. I am not sure they see the writing on the wall yet

Yet if they do manage to pass meaningful legislation then we will definitely see social unrest.

The police stopped a cab he was in, and he shot them. I understand ine has a bullet lodged in the radio he waswearing.
He was a career criminal with 4 kids, at least.
Looks like everytime a cop shoots somebody in Oakland.
that guy on the videos there, who was shot after shooting at police as he fled, tripped when a police bullet hit him in the leg and shot himself in the head and neck with his own gun by accident.
The police were immediately surrounded by a angry mob of confrontational blacks who walked all over the scene as the guy bled, and who stole the gun he dropped, which is visible on several videos (looks like a .380 Beretta to me, but the video is grainy).
Anarchists and hoodlums are always looking for a excuse to loot and riot. They are encouraged to by the marxist elements of society. Mob rule.

And it will get much worse, just wait for France to flare up again and see it spread. This $$#" was coming and now as it's here some hard decisions will have to be made by several countries if they wish to exist in near future.

I think those riot police showed amazing self control. Anyone that would run at me from 20 to 30 feet away with a brick and throw it would have to get shot.

Don't you know that a brick, rock or molotov cocktail aren't "deadly weapons" in a riot when thrown by disenfrachized and disempowered youth?
Shooting them would only escalate the situation.

We had "race riots" here back in the 60's especially when MLK got shot. They burned and looted the business district in North Phila. Went on for days. the merchants took their insurance and quit or moved their businesses out to the suburbs. The area never recovered. Now people like Michelle Obama talk about "Food Deserts" because there are no supermarkets there. They complain about boarded up storefronts, deteriorating buildings, and empty lots, but they either ignore or don't know the history that caused it.
I hate to go into the city now, especially at night, and never to areas like South st. anymore, where the "Flash Robs" of innocent passerbys are occurring for years now on Saturday nights.
