Ive got a rem 700 in .223 Im thinking about rebarreling. I want to go with a 7 twist to shoot heavier bullets and something around a rem varmint contour from krieger or bartlein. My question to yall is, what reputable smiths do you reccomend and whats the average cost to true the action/bolt and fit the barrel?

My advice is to look at the reputation of the gunsmith before price.
I would look hard at Accurate Ordnance in Winder, GA. I've seen their work in action and can attest to its quality and value. BTW, their build rates are reasonable too.

The price really isnt a concern, just green to the sport

I don't agree with finding the best person in the area. Shipping the gun is cheap compared to the work. Find the best guy for the job and send him the rifle.

Spartan Rifles, GAP, APA, Accurate Ordnance, SAC, etc etc etc.
Resale value should you decide to sell someday will be much higher being built by a nationally known smith.

Hmmmmmm, look at this through the eyes of a business manager.
Krieger has an excllent reputation for their barrels. If they put a barrel on your action, and it don't shoot, what would that do to Kriegers reputation???
Bet you if you send it to Krieger it wont come back unless it shoots.
Just my way of looking at it.

I would call a gunsmith you have in mind and confirm that they have your barrel in stock; or order the barrel you want to use and have it shipped to the gunsmith when its available. Nothing worse than having your rifle OOC because you're waiting on your gunsmith to order/receive parts.
There are several gunsmiths that do great work out west. Dig around a little here and you'll find them in no time.
