the magical brown truck just showed up about 10 min ago with my new Noveske 18" spr upper XD that damn thing is beautiful. once my IOR 2-12x32 comes in the build will be almost complete. i say almost cause i need to take the ugly ass Smith Ent. vortex off of it and put on an AAC spr/m4 mount. any help with getting the damn thing off would be appriciated. note: the FH is not spot welded on, and i don't have acces to a gun vise...... is there any hope for a DIY with this thing?

Re: This just in!!!!!

alright now do you believe me, i think the FH is silver solder'd on, in which case im screwed....

Guess they don't read the instructions with the Smith Vortex,NO crush or peel washers and hand tight only, the design will self tighten.

Re: This just in!!!!!

They put them on with a torque wrench that I think is set to high. You need to put it in an upper block. Put it in the vise and wrench it off. I would advise use a propane torch to heat it up nice and hot and take it off. My last upper from them was a 10.5" and I had to hold the torch to it for a good 5-10 minutes. Then using a 14" bar it finally spun loose.

Let a smith or someone with knowledge take it off. You know you can order their uppers minus the breaks right? They also sell AAC muzzle devices.

Re: This just in!!!!!

well, when i put my order in they were out of the AAC spr/m4 mounts. i sent them an email asking if they could hold out on sending it until they got more in. The guy i talked to, Joel said he didn't didn't think it would be a problem. well a few days later i had a racking number but when it showed up today there was no AAC on the end...... i guess there was a little bit of a misunderstanding

Re: This just in!!!!!

I have a Noveske SPR upper that came factory with a vortex on it also... I drilled a hole in a piece of wood and cut hole down the middle, put the barrel in it and clamped in a vice and it spun right off with a 5/8 end wrench.... NO locktite or solder. I cleaned the threads degreaser, added some rocksett and then spun on and torqued the SPR/M4 mount. Also, Rainier Arms has the mounts in stock last time I checked.
