I bought a Savage Ml-II last year so that I could use smokeless powders.
The gun did well, but I wasn't crazy about the slippery laminated stock.

I recently upgraded my 12FVSS to a Medalist stock, so I found myself holding an extra B&C Duramaxx.

Obviously, the Duramaxx isn't cut exactly right for a muzzleloader, but the transition wasn't all that difficult to do.

For a companion firearm, Savage just annouced the 220, a 20ga rifled slug gun with Accue-Trigger (and -Stock?) that is built on the 110 rifle action. Might even be a drop-in. If you live in a region where some of the area is restricted to shotguns (as West/Central NY state is), having an action switch capability into your accurized, well accustomed stock might prove useful, or maybe you can do a similar mod to an Accue-Stock, who knows?

That's a nice one too.
I'm not sure I'd cut a ramrod channel into the McMillan either.

The big advantage to ML hunting in my area is that the season coincides with the peak of the chasing phase of the rut, so the big boys are out there running around with all the thinking being done by the little head.

I just got it last year right before the season, so I didn't have much time to experiment.
I stayed with what was recommended by Savage & others.

44 grains SR4759
MMP black sabots
Hornady .452 250 grain HP/XTP

In what little range time I was able to spend with it last year, I was getting 1.5" groups (5) at 100 yards. I'm hoping the new stock and bedding will tighten things up a bit more.

1MOA @ 100yrds.

When I ran the 250 SST with MMP short pedal sabots, I was getting 2550FPS. Same groups. Negative with this load was at the above velocity, impacts under 100yrds the SST would NUKE! I mean messy!!

I'll definitely be trying some different things this year, and I always like more speed as long as accuracy isn't compromised.

/edit -After further research, I don't believe they are.

I'll definitely want to try some. Boat-tails and polymer tips are very appealing features.
