Every President and Vice President, their spouses, and their children are given Secret Service protection for life. As well as every US Supreme Court Justice.

Before this it seems that after ten years the protection was no longer provided...now it is.

They had it before and then in the 90's legislation was passed that prevented future presidents from receiving it. Any president prior to that legislation still had Secret Service protection. President Obama signed a law that was enacted by the Legislative Branch giving him and the past President that right back. If you're going to play the blame game and get political then at least get your facts straight and blame all the responsible parties... or better yet... DON'T GET POLITICAL!
