Thumbhole Stock or Not?

Looking for a new stock for my 700. Never messed with a thumbhole stock. Looking for your opinions. Ive narrowed the search too the MCS0-T5A and the MCS-T4. I know I want the Adj cheekpiece and LOP. I was also looking at the MCS-GAT. What do you think? Oh.....the heavier the better.

It's all preference, You need to try and find someone who has one of the stocks your looking for so you can see if it's even something that will feel good to you. If you've already done that and just want opinions on strictly looks, The MCS-T5 is pretty sick. You don't like the AICS?

No, never really cared for the looks of the AI. Like you said all personnal preference. Ive never really been into the thumbhole stocks. A buddy of mine brought home a rifle the other day that had a cheepy wood thumbhole stock on it. Ive NEVER cared for the "looks" of the thumbhole stocks, BUT, his felt surprisingly comfortable. Especially in the unsupported positions. And once I went to Manners website, the MCS-T5A, and the MCS-GAT started to grow on me.

All I can say is get behind them if you can. If not you might buy one you absolutely hate and will have to live with or sell.

Thats probably a good idea, now all I gotta do is find one and try it out.hehheh. Easier said than done. Anyone know of anyone on the Hide whos using one of the Manners Thumbhole Stocks?

Thumbholes are much slower to get the safety on/off as well as working the action. Make the first shot count.

REALLY???? Just <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">how</span></span> much slower? When does a tenth of a second really hurt you?

They do take some getting use to but I wouldnt say they are much slower. You may be slower to start with, but given time and pratice I found it quite easy to become comfortable working the bolt. The "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast" saying works perfectly here.

Im a fan of the MCS-T5A. IMO is has good weight and best of all, as soon as you move your hand to the stock it falls the exact same place every time. There is no searching or adjusting for proper grip.

OP- Try to find local shooters that have any of the options you are looking for. Hands on experience is the best way to decide.

I think the big advantage with the thumbhole stocks is consistency. I find my hand grips the rifle more consistently which means my trigger finger is in the same place shot after shot. I also like the thumbhole stocks for positional shooting as it gives me more control of the rifle. I have a manners T5A, I have also shot a McMillan A3 and A5. I like the McMillan's but I love my T5A!

I like the Manners stocks a lot, the thumbhole version works for me.

Most of the guys I know with AICS stocks don't even use the thumbhole, they ride their thumb on the outside.

That is what I found when I picked up my buddies rifle. Felt like I had more control. Think the T5A is the one Im gonna go with.
