Thumler's tumbler mods post your pics

I did this on a smaller scale with a heavy sandwich ziploc baggie and a few magnets inside it. Works great, but did you notice that when ya remove the magnets and the pins release from the bag that they are magnetized for a while and stick together.

I never had that happened. Is your neighbor's name max eisenhardt?

Does any of your tumblers have uneven plates on the top or bottom? On the bottom it looks like someone dropped the thing on the ground which has a marking on the bottom, and when the tumbler rotates you can hear a noise every time the uneven plate goes over the rotary shafts.

My Rebel 17 came in the mail yesterday and I will be testing it out tonight. My initial impression of it is that it basically the thumbler with all the bells and whistles, and looks cooler. I'm not so sure by looking at it, but the rollers look less problematic.

I ordered a Thumber from Sinclair last week, before finding the Rebel 17. Right now the Rebel is on sale, and ends up being cheaper than what I paid for the Thumbler. Good news is my thumbler was on backorder, so I think I'm going to cancel that order, and go with the Rebel 17 instead.

I got my Rebel 17 a couple weeks ago and ran a ton of cases through it while I was home. Works great! I only had one batch that got a bit spotty but I'm sure that was due to my sloppy measuring technique with the lemon shine. ;)

It runs real well although I never had any experience with the regular Thumblers. I don't see anything that I need to modify on the thing. Real happy with it, now I just need to get a bench source annealer and I'll be all set.

Guys we are still running the discount code in the group buy section.

Use stm10 on the deluxe reloading kit
Use stm05 on the reloading kit

I picked up a Rebel 17 and have 20 batches thru it. Its PERFECT! It works great with pistol and rifle brass. the deluxe reloading kit makes things very easy. Ill never us a vibratory cleaner again.,

I have two Thumlers, which are now retired, except for the drums. They do a good job of cleaning, but are too light in the arse for serious handgun shooters, as they lack capacity. The weakest link in the system is the rubber band that they call a drive belt. I have now resolved the problem.

I built my own tumbler, which carries two Thumler drums that are loaded to more than twice, perhaps three times the capacity they will carry on the Thumler base. It consists of two 1/2 inch shafts, thirty inches in length. Each shaft is supported by three pillow block bearings, and the drive shaft is turned by a 6" pulley mounted just to the side of the center pillow block. The motor, a 1725 rpm, 1/3 hp unit is mounted under the top deck, and carries a 2" primary pulley driving a 40" drive belt. Given that the shafts are encased in a piece of 1/2" heater hose, their outer diameter is .75", which mated to the 1725 rpm motor, 2" primary pulley, 6" secondary pulley, and Thumler drums, yields a drum rpm of 46 rpm, which works just right.

Initially I thought that given the fact that I was loading the drums MUCH heavier with lots more brass, and nearly full of water, I might not get good cleaning. I was wrong. I just upped the amount of soap and Lemishine, and the brass came out just as clean as ever. I can now do in one cleaning cycle, what once took me three.

The wife broke the digital camera, so I can't post pictures. I can tell you that I built the chassis of plywood and 2x8 lumber that I ripped and shaped as needed on my table saw. Everything else needed except for the drums can be bought on ebay. Once I learn how to make my own very large drum, I will build another one engineered to carry it.

Jack you had the same idea I did, I got tired of the small rubberband belts. I threw everything away and kept the drum and built a new stand with pillow blocks and .500 ground and polished shaft and a link belt to drive it.

Works great and will last forever,
Casey
