I have a new un-fIred T1X I picked up a while back I was checking it out yesterday and noticed the barrel is slightly touching the stock on one side my other T1X came from the factory floated, just wondering if any of you guys have ran into this and what you did to correct it. Thanks.

Mine was just fine and has had no issues.

I think what I would try, and I am not a guru like many on this site, is to take the barreled action out of the stock, check for any issues such as plastic burs and the such and when I put the barreled action back in the stock I would use some business cards underneath the barrel so its free floated and centered. After I torqued the stock back down, I'd remove the business cards and see if it is now correct and stays.

I am also one, even though I know its a pain, that is quick to send a rifle back if something isn't right or easily fixed.

Some other will come along with better advice than I have to give. Good luck with it.

I just pulled out my Tikka to answer your question and take a picture and saw that my stock is really warped. It was warped slightly when I bought it but it's much worse now and pushing on my barrel in multiple spots.
Originally I just used my pocket knife to shave one of the ribs down that was touching. It didn’t take much before I could slip a dollar bill in there so I didn’t worry too much about it.
Now... I just ordered a KRG Bravo.

I think I remember mine being a little warped to one side or the other also. I don't recall specifically because it seems like every plastic stocked rifle I've ever bought was a little bit warped like that. I always end up using a dremel and a sanding drum to remove material from the offending side until I can easily slide a notecard between the barrel and stock all the way back to the receiver. I do remember my T1X stock being markedly better than the garbage that comes with Savage rifles. I've ended up replacing every one of my tupperware stocks at this point.

Thanks for posting that ...mines just slightly off and to the left like yours, I am wondering if it's the stock or maybe the barrel is in the receiver crooked, let me know when you put it in the KRG....hopefully it is just the stock. I did measure mine and it was slightly off, if my measurements are accurate.

Mine also kisses the stock on the left, for about 2". A dollar bill will slide through but snug at that point. I keep meaning to remove some material from the stock... I shoot offhand a lot. Are there better stocks that don't weigh much more than factory?

So I finally got my KRG Bravo and made the swap. My order fell through the cracks over the holidays at my LGS so sorry it took so long to report back.
You can see in the pictures where my barrel was contacting a rib in the factory stock. I took a measurement with calipers after getting it in the Bravo and it is only off slightly (.004”) to the right. As far as manufacturing tolerances go that is nothing. The problem with my rifle was definitely the stock and not a crooked barrel in the receiver. YMMV

I had similar and sanded to ensure clearance. I also removed that stock insert as it was touching the barrel as well. Was it needed...no clue as I never shot it before that. However standard practice for me is to always ensure the barrel is free floated and appropriate action torque is used. Never had bad results using this method.

2 cents and all that...

Nothing wrong with that fit, thanks for posting

CAN SOMEONE HELP!!!! I had the same issues when it was not until I put in new stock that I noticed the 16 inch barrel is ever so slightly to the left. I have spoke to a ton of people including dealers and they say this is common but not an issues with accuracy. The distributer said not normal but not abnormal??? What? Its such a hassle to send back. I'm thinking of getting an aftermarket match barrel but worry that after spending all that money it will have the same issues. This is the pic of the barrel in the fore end. Im sure its not the stock because when I put back the barrel action in the original plastic stock you can see that the left side is touching or closer than the right side of barrel. Does anybody have ideas?

Make sure you have it in the stock correctly, the recoil lug in the stock fits very tightly into the receiver (in mine it does). If not seated right it will be cocked a little.

Mike

I double check again but I’m sure it’s on properly.
Like I mention when putting on original stock it’s the same. You gave me idea, I will try without lug and see if it cant’s a lot then I’ll see how the action relates to this lug.
