While installing this thing I took off way too many tri-glides or whatever they are called, now i can't figured out if i put it on right. any suggestions?

Not wrong, different. You have it now set up for over shoulder carry. This way you can put weight on shoulders and still have rifle in hands at the ready.
If you tag the tag end and loop back through the tag end slideer you can now make one handed adjustments to rear or front.
I did not leave the end long to have more weight to carry. I did so, so you can carry more ways
