Now look at this one. A $1000 gun minus scope.Savage seems to disagree with your assessment as they also offer a “precision rifle” that is built to do what a simple hunting rifle is not. I would hardly classify it as a cheap rifle. I would never buy one but that is a different topic.
Nobody has said cheap rifles can’t shoot, you fail to consider the soil your virtual feet stand on. Take your rifle and get it to shoot different factory ammunition sub moa. Now get it to do that on different weather days and under extreme circumstances. Now get multiple shooters of distinct shapes and sizes to be able to to duplicate the amazing results…
These are the reasons we fixate on the rifles we do and recommend them. Not to be elitist snobs but because they simply work, and they work reliably under a plethora of challenges. Your money does buy something besides the name engraved on the receiver.

I joined this forum less than a month ago, seeking information & some advice about expanding my tactical gun skills to include longer distance precision shooting. Longest shots would probably be less than 500 yards.
Who here has said that???To those who say a lower cost rifle isn't accurate, I say BULLSHIT.
Again... who here has said that? Seriously... I've never seen anyone imply that. If I dare make a blanket characterization of this group, I'd say they respect marksmanship, not mere ownership of high-dollar gear. Now you tell me again how you need a high dollar gun with yada yada yada aftermarket parts to be accurate.
Even for me... I don't think that will impress many here. Now put 5 rounds touching each other in that rather large (yes large at a mere 100 yards) bottle. My range doesn't allow anything but paper targets.Did this to a 1 hour energy drink bottle. Diameter is 1.6 diameter.
100 yards
1st shot
Why is the reading comprehension level so damned low in this forum?
It's about new shooters and people in here, many of whom have absolutely no idea about wtf they are talking about, slamming products they know absolutely nothing about.
The VAST majority of outdoor ranges are 100 yards or less. Cities seldom have even that close to them. To one hell of a lot of people, 100 yards will be as long range as they get. I live in the country and have a 50 & 100 on my property.
People want to know what a GOOD ENTRY LEVEL weapon is, over the counter, out of the box. I've asked a couple of times in this thread what recommendations they would have and those people got pissed.
I have no interest in competition shooting. Admire the skills they have though.
People in here need to remember, they didn't start out with a custom gun that's $10K.
How soon they forget.
Or have they just talkers and not shooters?
Nope. Those are distinct terms with very distinct definitions in the world of marksmanship. You call it precision, I call it accuracy.
Difference of opinion.
Wellsee the "c" team on the local girls club has arrived. You get lonely in your basement apts so y'all jump online and Viola!!!
LOL! No. This AR-15 really likes Federal Gold Medal Match 77-gr.If you say 55gr PMC Bronze im gunna throw all my shit out the window.
But you didn’t even hit the dot……how will you ever hit a primer?Cheap guns can be great if you ignore everything about them thats shit and only focus on the good.
My preferred cheap gun is the ruger american. Its a clunky fucking turd but it shoots alright at 100yds.

Finally an honest reply. It took 4 pages of them blowing gaskets and doing everything but addressing the topic.Just a suggestion to tone down the hostility...
If you take the time to do a search for threads on the subject, you'll find that when people ask for what is a good entry level weapon, they will almost always be told something affordable like a Tikka T3X CTR or several other similar brands all in the $1k to $1500 range.
Now maybe you're upset that savage doesn't get brought up much, but consider that there is probably a good reason why.
If you buy one of the often recommended entry level rifles in the $1k to $1500 range you get a known good proven platform with a good success rate out of the box and a rifle ready to go right away and a rifle that can be expanded on easily with aftermarket support and something you won't be quickly needing to upgrade from.
It's like the old joke in the Photography world of telling someone they can save them $500 off a tripod and when they ask how, you tell them to buy the $1k tripod from the start, instead of getting the cheap one and then upgrading step by step until they realize they need the $1k one.
Back in the day long ago before there were a lot of cheap choices, sure if you were poor a Savage might be worth the gamble if you didn't need to run it hard.
The same thing will apply with optics.
I've gone both routes in my life, and will always advise someone towards something I'm pretty sure they won't be quickly wanting to upgrade from as I'd prefer them not to have to learn from experience like I did of buying things only to soon need to sell them at a loss and get what was a better fit for me or a better item.
If you didn’t have such crepe paper-thin skin you would have been able to figure out what was being saidFinally an honest reply. It took 4 pages of them blowing gaskets and doing everything but addressing the topic.
I've never seen the group think hatred towards a brand like I have with Savage and it's exclusively in this site. I'd bet 75% of them have never even had one in their hands much less shot one. Same shit happens in guitar forums as well.
I've seen one bad review of the gun I bought out of dozens online. It won an award as product of the year in 2021. So tell me, who has more credibility, all the positive reviews from people who have actually had these in their hands, or a bunch of internet harpies in a forum?
Almost no one says this, and mostly the people who do say this are people insecure with their inability to own more expensive rifles.
Also, precision is the metric you are describing, not accuracy.
Expensive gear in no way makes you a better shooter, unless you are entering the realm of competition.
Just as an expensive guitar doesn't make one a better player, or an expensive car make them a better driver. You make your living dealing with expensive gear. It's all about actually putting a shit load of rounds down range and developing your skills, and confidence.
You call it precision, I call it accuracy.
Difference of opinion.

I was simply going to ask if his delicate sensibilities come in men's sizes. But that's just me.If you didn’t have such crepe paper-thin skin you would have been able to figure out what was being said
We're in the Bear Pit now...Ignoring post 156, might have consequences.
Millennial and Gen X mostly I think.
Single, apartment dwellers and work in a cubicle.
But once you're online, wow, machismo just bursts out of ya'll.
But only online.

Well OK, lets get ready to rumble. We're in the Pit now....
It’s in the Bear Pit now. Gloves are off.Ignoring post 156, might have consequences.
In response to your earlier posts, I wholeheartedly agree that any rifle is a good starting point. I’ve shot, owned (and still do) and shoot with guys that shoot every stock and custom rifle around. In the end, it really is the shooter that makes all the difference.Well OK, let’s get ready to rumble.
You have black eyed peas in a tube sock for a rear bag like I do?Hey, I still have my Plaster Ultimate Sniper stock. I know how to be poor!
100% if a “savage” is all you can afford then have at it and be proud of it. Better to have more money for ammo then a custom you can’t afford to shoot. In response to your earlier posts, I wholeheartedly agree that any rifle is a good starting point. That said, if I know of a person that is choosing has the wherewithal to afford a solid entry level rifle, I’ll suggest that to save them some grief.
To be honest I did not read it that way at first. I took it as a new guy thinking he found something new, but worded it, totally wrong. Then when it started down hill, he took the responses as direct insults. Not that anyone here would ever do such a thing. In my early posts in this thread, I tried to be civil, but the OP had only one goal in mind and that was to troll the site.
You have black eyed peas in a tube sock for a rear bag like I do?
So the roamer, it was your air soft resupply stash is untrue?Nope... Beanie Baby stuffing.
So the roamer, it was your air soft resupply stash is untrue?
I laughed out loud all by myself in the house, alone. You're Overton Windex's troll account.....aren't you?
Did someone say black-eyed peas? You have black eyed peas in a tube sock for a rear bag like I do?
That’s great, do they make one for straight men?Now look at this one. A $1000 gun minus scope.
Hey, I still have my Plaster Ultimate Sniper stock. I know how to be poor!
Sirhr
Mine has a Springfield Government Model 4-14x56 lolI had one of those.
I had a savage I put in it
Topped with a Tasco "world class" scope
I might have you beat in how poor one once was.
Technically that was when I wasn't so poor anymore
not as gay or dumb as the guy that actually believe dollars yield resultsI knew this was a Savage owner before I even clicked the thread.
Savages are gay.
