Before I get my new USO, I have started to research the rings I will use. Looking at the how to videos on the USO website, it states the scopes come with a down 20 MOA on the settings. If I install on a flat top with no MOA, it looks like my first correction will be 20 MOA, sound correct?

They also mention to use a bore sighter that is magnetic, can anyone recommend one that will work with a FH like PWS or Smith Vortex. Lastly, in the videos the technician is using a screw driver style torque wrench that has a red handle, does anyone know who makes this one...

Any help will be appreciated.

did you get the erek? If you did, I wouldn't worry about a 20moa mount/base

Re: Tools and Set Up for New USO

You really just need a torque wrench for the rings and base. I use a wheeler fat wrench. I got it from Midwayusa if I remember correctly. I like nightforce or Badger bases and rings, but have a few sets of burris XTR's and they seem to work fine too.

You don't need a bore sighter. Just mount the optic like you would anything else. Take your rifle to the range and pop out the bolt if its a bolt gun. I position mine on a rear bag or a vise if you have it. Look down the back of the barrel and get it on target @ 100 yards. Dial the scope to the target. Fire a 3 shot group. Use the reticle to adjust the group to center of target. Fire another 3 shot group. I am typically within 1-3" of bullseye when I simply look down the bore and center it with the optics.

Follow EREK instruction to bottom out elevation to act as zero stop. I usually put in .5 mil below zero and call it good. That means when I return to zero I go 5 clicks past and then dial back up 5 clicks to zero. Zero windage cap.

Done

Thanks, Yes I did get the EREK, SN-3, 1.8 to 10 T-PAL, It will be going on an LMT MWS. I think I will go with the USO Rings, they do have a windage adjustment that will allow you to set windage without moving the reticle.

I am thinking about the Borka tool for the rings and ring cap mounting.

Lazy, Give me the specs on the rifle in your posting. I had a LTR, sold it, thinking about a SPS as a base for building a 77Bronc custom, doing it all myself.

BTW thanks for the feedback

Re: Tools and Set Up for New USO

rifle started life as a FN pbr xp(with claw). Had my smith true the action, install a rock creek #7 max HV. Jewell trigger set a 10oz, stock is a McMillan A-5 with thumb wheel cheek piece. Two flush cups at the bottom and one stud, had the receiver machined for the cdi bottom metal and using AI 10 round mags. Bedding was redone by me, paint was done by Todd(think he works for Manners Stocks now)gap camo. Glass is a USO 17xt-pal, 34mm tube, erek 1/10 mill windage us#1 m40 1/10 mil, od green, mill gap reticle, push button lit(red), 44mm obj.

Re: Tools and Set Up for New USO

I mount mine using a set of feeler gauges and a torque wrench.

Then I use a laser boresight cartridge. Shine it out my window at the road, and hit the reflective edge paint. Adjust and I'm done. My new USO was <1.5" from being centered on the first shot.

Don't forget the three (3) different sized Allen wrenches, the 2 tiny O-rings, and the solid EREK knob cover. No EREK, and life is simple. Just a single Allen wrench.
