Interesting that entry into a market is typically greeted by a reduction in price and tighter competition as the consumer of that increasingly competitive marketplace is both the arbiter and beneficiary. The existing providers of said service or good must become more efficient in order to maintain their market share while the new player must do the same or innovate in order to gain share.

Not so in the legal profession. Hourly rates and retainers seem to be commanding premiums these days with no sign that the glut of attorneys has created any reduction for the consumer since everyone's kid became an attorney.

In the lawsuit industry, the regulators are other lawyers who have become judges. As the population of attorneys grows unabated, the list of civil wrongs must be expanded to satisfy the tandem growth of the masses of parasites who lust for the windfall of a $50,000.00 nuisance settlement.

It isn't hard to understand why absurd lawsuits are filed and continue to progress through the courts rather than being summarily dismissed. And it certainly doesn't help that the insurance industry simply caves in every time they can settle for 65% of the suit, never mind that every law firm has whole business plans built on just such gutlessness on their part!

Prediction: It is no great reach to imagine that dirty looks and failure to keep dandelion seeds from blowing into your neighbor's yards will soon become actionable torts!

Clearly, all the great civil wrongs have been righted if this is what the legal profession is fighting over.
