WTF!
tde1.jpg

Notice the ARROW stuck in its HEAD!!!
tde2.jpg

Head On Shot (no pun intended): Not a bad shot if I do say so myself. with the exception that this deer can withstand a crossbow shot to the HEAD! Did I mention this is the toughest deer ever?
tde3.jpg

Side View: you can see the blood that came out the BACK of the deer's head. Again, keep in mind, this is the toughest deer of all time. Unfreakingbelievable!

Re: Trail Cam Pics.Toughest Deer ever

Are you sure on this that its not a photo edit??? Possible I guess if the skull was not severely damaged. Must have been a real hard graze of the vitals.

Re: Trail Cam Pics.Toughest Deer ever

Thats a cross bow bolt and a shame that poor deer will end up dead from the infection and thats a bad way to go. But it is the nature of hunting. I hope it was an accident and he was not trying for headshot.About 14 years ago I wounded an Axis doe with a gut shot and found her about a week later checking some fences. still makes me sick.

Re: Trail Cam Pics.Toughest Deer ever

My sister saw, with her own eyes, a buck in a local park with an arrow stuck in it's neck. She said the deer was feeding and hanging around other deer as if nothing was out of the ordinary. Deer are very tough indeed.
As a side note- In many of the parks in the metro area, the MO Conservation Dept. runs management hunts which are limited to archery and in some cases muzzleloaders. To meet the quota, they have implemented an earn-a-buck rule where you have to take a doe before you can take a buck. I have yet to draw a damn tag, which really sucks because I live 1 mile from a very large county park!

Re: Trail Cam Pics.Toughest Deer ever

Wow, with that broadhead you think it would have cut deeply into the skull, its surprising it didn't fracture the skull, though I would imagine there are some nice gouges in it.

I think as muchas the deer is tough it is also incredibly luckly.

I agree with Kenco, it does really suck. It pains me to see an animal wounded by the stupidity of people. A headshot with a crossbow is always going to be dubious at best.

Re: Trail Cam Pics.Toughest Deer ever

Something just doesn't look right about those photos.

Look at the distance between the broadhead and the scull in the first photo. Also the distance from the skull to the base of the fletching. Now compare it to the third photo.

Maybe it's just the angle of the arrow in the different photo's that's throwing me off..

If it is real, makes me sick to think someone would try a head shot with a cross bow.

Re: Trail Cam Pics.Toughest Deer ever

I am with Broc on this. The pics are from 2 different dates. On the second day, the fletching is way out in front of the nose... on the first day it does not extend beyond the nose. Perhaps it moved a bit, but it is suspect.

Re: Trail Cam Pics.Toughest Deer ever

It's quite obvious that, (if a real photo)the broadhead missed the brain. That part of the deer's skull is where the sinus cavity sits, and if the arrow were to penetrate the sinus, it would go right through and not kill the deer.

Shitty sportsmanship to shoot a deer in the head with a bow, IMO.

Re: Trail Cam Pics.Toughest Deer ever

Why can guys use bows and do this legally when I can't use my suppressed 45acp encore? I don't get it. This Indian bullshit has me pissed.

The same shot from my suppressed encore would have popped that deers head like an egg.

Re: Trail Cam Pics.Toughest Deer ever

In the top photo, one feather on the arrow appears to be pointed down and the other two up. In the second and third images, one feather appears to be up and the other two down. The arrow might have rotated somehow, but it's odd.

Re: Trail Cam Pics.Toughest Deer ever

I hope it was a frontal shot that went bad. Unfortunately I have seen just as many bad shots from rifle hunters as I have from bow hunters. Especially guys that think they can shoot long range, shoot at a bull elk at 700 yards then don't even go look for blood. I have glassed this many times and unless you have a good spotter you could have hit the animal with a fatal shot and it will walk away like nothing happened and die.

Re: Trail Cam Pics.Toughest Deer ever

I don't know that I would label the entire bowhunting community gay for the stupid actions of one person. No matter how you look at it, that deer was shot from a frontal angle which is a big no-no with any archery equipment. It should always be broadside or quartering away, or pass the shot. I've shot them with a bow and had them drop within steps of the impact. Alternatively, I've seen a 60lb doe take a hit behind the shoulder with a 300 WM shooting failsafes and she ran half a mile before a guy with a 30-06 put her down with a neck shot. This photo isn't of an equipment failure, it is a lack of sportsmanship. Now the camera owner should do the right thing and take her out of the herd discreetly.
