I have a TRG42 300WM and am starting to figure the best rounds for it for 300 and 1000 yard. Does anyone have experience or suggestions to help me along? Would anyone have experience to share also for a hunting load for elk or deer up to a range of 400 yards? Thanks.

Re: TRG42 in 300WM advice

I just loaded up a handful of 208 amaxes with H1000 in winchester brass.Hopefuly i will be able test tomorrow and I will have some range results from my Trg42 300wm for you.Im sure there are plenty of guys here with proven loads for the Trg42 300wm.

Re: TRG42 in 300WM advice

Yes this will be my first load for my new trg.I'm starting at 76 and going up to 78 in .3 increments.I loaded a batch with winchester large mag primers and a batch with cci 250 magnums too.

Re: TRG42 in 300WM advice

winchester brass
cci 250 magnum primer

-208 amax
75 gr h1000
oal:3.655"

-200 accubond
74 gr h1000
oal:3.622"

all are about 0.010" from lands

the accubond i noticed grouped around 1 moa at 100 when it got back around 76-77, but it was really kicking hard.

and i'm using the ones i found to be the most accurate. the amax deviated big and quickly after its best group, while the accubond didn't really deviate much all through its range.

Re: TRG42 in 300WM advice

Trg42 300wm
190 smks
70.1 rld 22
3.40 oal
Wlrm
2765 fps average.
Sierra manual accuracy load

208 amax
78.1 h1000
3.50
cci 250
2860 fps
These are the best loads out of the bunch that I shot up to 600yds with outstanding accuracy.

Re: TRG42 in 300WM advice

For the long range stuff keep the Smk 210 in mind. They are more
expensive then the Amax's but they really shoot well. Also Reloader
22 start about 68grns and work up.

Have fun ! You have one of the best rifles ever made.

Re: TRG42 in 300WM advice

Guys - this is great information to get me started and I appreciate it. The TRG42 is a heavy gun to carry around but it is great to shoot. This will be the gun that gets me to shooting 1000 yards. Thanks.
