Trigger Choice for KMW Surgeon Rifle.

I have a Surgeon 308 built by Terry Cross that is ready for a trigger upgrade. The Rem trigger was tuned to a crisp pull by Terry but, honestly, I am spoiled to lighter trigger pulls. I have RRA and Giessele two-stage triggers on my ARs and Jewell HVR triggers on my BAT varmint rifles.

I am looking at the CG Mod 22 as well as the John Huber that Paul will soon offer in the Group Buy. Can anyone offer pros/cons of each trigger and advise what, if any, modifications were required to fit your Surgeon? My Surgeon is mounted in an A-5 stock with Badger DM bottom metal.

I am fairly sure that the Jewell requires some milling to fit but am hoping for a drop-in from one of the premium two-stage triggers. Thanks in advance for any advice. BAT_Boy

Re: Trigger Choice for KMW Surgeon Rifle.

if you want a lighter 2 stage id recommend the CG, the Huber is more of a "field trigger" the cg can be adjusted to be a field trigger but its more of a "target trigger"

If you went with the Jewell the milling is minimal, you can also get the Jewell with a bottom safety which may not require any milling. The CG triggers are VERY nice indeed and the shoe can be turned for straight or curved preference.

In my opinion, the best drop in is the Rifle Basix. I've replace one of my KMW's with a Rifle Basix and had the other ordered with it from the start. Both crisp and great triggers. I personally like the flat bladed trigger piece better than other triggers as well.

I've also had great customer service from Rifle Basix as well. My own install with the RB trigger had the bolt needing a bit more rearward movement to reset the trigger than I liked. A call and email to the RB guys had them hand picking one with a professional tuning to my exact trigger weight and on its way to me the next day. The new trigger was exactly as I had hoped. They even paid return shipping!

And BTW, if you consider ever selling your KMW, please do not hesitate to look me up. I have the itch for a 7mm-08 build and just need to find one that is ready for a rebarrel.

Re: Trigger Choice for KMW Surgeon Rifle.

Thanks for the info guys.

Deadly, I had never heard of Huber until I ran across the group buy and read Lowlight's review, so I'm only going on what I read. Apparently, it comes in three versions with the lowest, Sniper, set between 1 to 2 pounds. I can handle the lighter pull "IF" it is reliable at that weight.

Cigar, I love the Jewells on my varmint rifles and, formerly, my BR rifles. I'm just not sure that I would trust my life to one on a "go to" rifle and that is what I consider my Surgeon/S&B 5-25 PM II set-up. I want to enjoy punching paper but know that, if needed, the rig could endure harsher conditions. The CG does seem like an excellent choice for sure.

Hazzard, I've had two Surgeon rifles and two Surgeon actions, so I am sold on their quality. I sold the actions and chose to go with BATs for my varmint rifles since stainless would not need a coating. I traded the GAP Surgeon rifle for a tricked out GAP DPMS 308 custom just a couple of months ago. The KMW Surgeon is a keeper.

Thanks again for the help. BAT_Boy
