I've searched around but I can't find out how to make a solid clamp to use on a tripod for shooting and I am not going to pay $150-$350 for a manufactured clamp for this purpose. Any help is appreciated.

not exactly what I'm looking for, close though. I want to be able to clamp the stock of my rifle to the tripod ( if I take my hands off the rifle, I don't want it to fall)

Re: Tripod mount/clamp for secure shooting platfor

you are going to have issues with Recoil when you "clamp" it down. You will have a good first shot....the second one, not so much.

And if you are not going to use the systems that cost $300+ I am not clear what you are looking for.

Shooting in the sitting/standing in high grass. A clamp can be made from scratch as one of the guys I used to know that was in sniper plt made one. Unfortunatly i don't have contact with him anymore. I have no issues with recoil. This is just for a better shooting platform when bipods aren't of use.

6" length of 4" pvc heavy wall cut in half. mould in a 1/4-20 nut (heat it up and push into pipe) line it with some sleeping pad and paint it. If you want the rifle "held" in place get a velcro strap that keeps cables bundled. And strap rifle to tripod.
Done of under $10 and if you have to bug out of a hide you haven't lost much.

I will post a pic of what I have that I would be willing to part with when I get a chance. I have to be in court today so it may be a bit before I can get it done. I think it will be perfect for what you want!

Should have added- mounts to standard tripod screw and clamps on rifle with the simple throw of a lever. I would use it but my dept sprung for the high $ units so I no longer need it.

OK!

Here is the mount I have been talking about. I bought it a few years ago at a gun show and I have no idea of the manufacturer or the dealer I got it from. Wish I could help more.

It opens up 2 1/2" wide and closes to 1 1/8". The clamp locking lever (the one on the left in the first pic) is cammed somehow, meaning, you tighten the flat thumb screw on the right to take up the slack and then move the lever to tighten the clamp. The other lever is to loosen the tilt option. There are "teeth" mating the two together so it is sturdy when tightened.
