Truck Gun AR-10, what are your thoughts?

Looking for advice from AR-10 shooters, I've never shot one but have worn out an AR-15 or two.

What I'm looking for is advice, advice that points me towards accurate AR-10 rifles that retail under $1500. I would prefer an adjustable stock but if fixed is the only option with the most accurate upper, I can live with it, I haven't changed the A2 on my Mk12 clone. Durability is also an issue, as the rifle will be in and out of my truck quite a bit on weekends and ran in the field, not on a bench. Keep it light guys (8.5lbs)

If you have any recommendations for accurate, well built, AR-10's, I would appreciate it!

I second this. Hard to beat a Rock River Arms. I do not own one of their .308 rifles but have 3 in 5.56. Very accurate rifles.

Cheap, no frills, fighting rifle. Perfect truck 308.

Why does it need to be an AR10? What are your requirements for the weapon other than lightweight and durable? How accurate? MOA, sub MOA, etc? What ranges will it be shot at?

My vote goes to CMMG or Smith and Wesson. Either one would be a good shooter. There always the option to build too. Mega Arms is a great starting point for 308 builds and Palmetto State Armory is supposed to be coming out with 308 receiver sets.

get a real AR 10, Armalite A model right here uses Pmags or any Knights style mag and is under $1300
in stock!! I really enjoy mine it runs like a champ...........
the forearm has to go they are crap. I put an MI rail, Magpul ACS and grip on mine
you will still be around $1500

I chose AR10 because my daily opportunities for shots are on larger hogs, deer and some exotic animals if I get lucky enough. Shots vary from 25 to 800 on the properties I hunt and .308 in a semi auto platform fit the bill for me.

Thank you all for the recommendations! The DPMS Recon .308 impressed me, as well as the RRA. I will be on the lookout for both.

I don't know if they've announced a price yet, but what about the DPMS new GII rifles. I'd suggest one chambered in Creedmore or 260.

Keep in mind the RRA uses only FAL mags or their plastic mags. The plastic mags are sweet in mine compared to the steel FAL mags. A lot of other parts are proprietary as well with the RRA's. Don't let that deter you, just know what you're getting into. They are some sweet shooting guns.

I would strongly consider the DPMS G2 line for a .308 in an AR pattern. Fixes most of the little issues with .308 ARs.

I was looking for what you are, and settled on a DPMS LR308B. Since I was going to beat on it a bit and had limited funds, I went with a Leupy VX-R Patrol 3-9. I do not know if you are going to find a full rig for 8.5lbs, but the LR308B and VX-R Patrol makes for one of the lighter .308 heavy barrel platforms you will find. I'm not a huge asthetic fan of the LR308B, but for about $1500 total investment (already had some scope rings from a bolt gun that worked) it'll shoot/hunt.

My Combo is good for 2 MOA with cheap hunting ammo, and .75 MOA with match ammo off of a bench and is surprisingly consistient. I just wish it would shoot the cheap hunting ammo better. The match ammo floored me, even with Atomic 168gr. Out in the field, the shooter is the limiting factor.

The RRA mag situation isnt a major issue, I dont have a large frame AR or mags yet that would make cross-compatibility a decision factor. I have shot RRA AR-15's and they impressed me.

On the GII, what are the limitations to AR-15 parts compatibility?

Seems mostly applies to the AP4 model on the interchangeability part. Might need to wait a while before the rest of the market catches up. However with the amount of current interest I don't think it'll take long before everyone start to pimp out on the Gen IIs.
