Not long ago I posted something like this and got in a tiff with another member.
I had and still try to find out how to buy knives and Leatherman tools confiscated by TSA.
It has not been an easy fight to say the least.
You make numerous calls only to find out that the State surplus Property is run by inmates and they sure as hell won't let those guys have sharp tools, that is a bust.
Many calls to TSA run you around and finally you get a web site of gsa.auctions.gov
Good luck with that.
That was the information I first asked for, not a snot answer as to how to use Google.
Let it go at that, I think the goodies are being pirated away by people on the inside and sold as a grab bag at local gunshows, flea markets etc.
Sorry for being curt to Veer G, but you did not know what all I had done to try and find an answer.
Regards, FM

Re: TSA confication and how to buy them.

I agree, the whole thing is a joke and a rude justification for stealing a person's belongings. I've never seen/heard of a TSA auction but I have seen lost luggage auctions.

Side note: As soon as it gets warmer and this white stuff melts, I'll give you a buzz for a Pawnee trip.

Re: TSA confication and how to buy them.

A tiff, Mike? I found what should have been your answer in seventeen (17) seconds on Google and kidded you about it. You got your tighty whities all bunched as if I had actually done something wildly offensive. Reading your post, I think your issue is with the TSA, in a big way, and no, they don't let inmates come in direct contact with sharp stuff (kitchen, machine shop, wood shop, grounds crew, road crew, etc.) that isn't inventoried and re-accounted for at the end of every shift before they get marched back to their cells, let alone the pocketknives that get swiped at airports.

OK, let's let this one rest.
I had Googled that subject and it went the wrong way.
I did Google it and had called any number I could find as to what I was looking for.
Had you been the one making all those calls and listening to the feeble answers and elevator music, only to find out I had called the wrong party, you may have had a Case of the Ass, as I did.
Unfortunately, your cartoon kind of pushed me over the edge.
I am not totally computer illiterate, but do not possess the skills required to post cartoons.
I was out of line to respond to you as I did and I hope you will accept my apology.
With that in mind,"Don't walk in someones shoes unless you have tried them on."

Re: TSA confication and how to buy them.

FWIW take a look at eBay for those types of items. I was pretty shocked to see how many Leatherman Micra, mini Swiss Army knives and the like on there, all lightly used. Hmmm... wonder where those came from?

Re: TSA confication and how to buy them.

I have called all numbers suggested and called TSA for info and it is a goatfuck.
My first thought in mind was,"How do I buy some of this stuff? Will a nice Schrade folder be in there? or maybe a nice Gerber or Buck?, maybe a nice Leatherman tool?"
Well, after Googling that, I made a few calls to no effect.
I tried the State surplus auction, run by inmates and that didn't work.
Next I tried TSA.
Take a guess at how that went down.
Next, with a hint from the TSA guy I tried gsa.auctions.gov
I had done all of this shit before only to run up on dead ends.
I really don't know how all of that property is disposed of and I was just wondering if I could buy a nice knife or leatherman tool!!
I am going to give up on this as I hate elevator music and being on HOLD for as long as I will stay there. Try an hour, or more.
I do believe that the confiscated goods are taken by TSA employees and sold to the highest bidder, however, not just everyone can be a bidder.
This whole thing just sucks and if you put in a call to TSA to find out about how to do this bidding, don't hold your breath as you will turn blue and die before anyone answers your call.
FUKM, they got the best of me, but I did try.
Regards, FM
Their best answer was,"The items are donated."
Donated to whom? would be my response.
