Hello people!

My name is Scott. That tag name is ancient greek and means "Not Difficult". It's just a name I have used around the net in various places.

I spent 22 years in the Marine Corps, I am retired Enlisted. I then spent 10 years in college and hold a master's in Philosophy. I am a PhD candidate but don't much care about that. I just turned 60 in July. My wife passed from breast cancer on 9/10/11.

I am attempting, not as intensely as I could, to re-hone my skills to see if I can again become competitive. I ran the rifle range as the NCOIC out here for 2 years and I was on the team for one of those years. But I have been retired since 95, so no regular access to the range since them. I say "not as intensely as I could" because I have no idea where there are any decent ranges out near me. Can't use the one on the base, dang it.

You will find that I am not very "vocal" here, and in fact, I intend to lurk for quite awhile, collecting helpful info for myself. I'll "speak up" if I feel the need.

IF some reasonably priced Long Range physical school comes up, and I can afford it, and the trip, I may meet you there.

I am reloading my own ammo. I have worked a couple of 80% lowers. With Barb's insurance money (there wasn't much), I purchased an AR10. Armalite upper, match grade, and Precision Aerostar match lower. (More Crapifornia garbage) 20" inch barrel. Got it from 7.62 SASS. I have a couple of 15's. I recently purchased that new Mossberg Predator MVP. Sweet little gun. MIGHT work for 600 competition, I don't know. I am considering a 26" 7.62 barrel. I only obtain military chambered stuff.

I started with black powder a few years back. I have converted a few pistolos. Some merely drop ins, some with a recoil shield and gate. I can do trigger stuff. The point is that I am unafraid to attempt to smith my own weapons. I will only seek help or let some one else touch my guns when it is absolutely necessary.

But I would categorize myself clearly as a "hobbyist" as that's the level that probably fits me the most. I'm a little advanced as a hobbyist goes, but I would not call me a pro.

I hope to eventually meet some of you guys n gals out there on the range. YES I know gals shoot great also.

So.. anyway... I am not a complete newbie, just rusty and need more knowledge.

Take care you all!

Scott

Hi Greg!

We've probably met. I usually go out during the week so I can play undisturbed. I amdit it is handy, and I like going there . The pistol part is good. That 100 yd line bothers me. It's 36 MOA down and that is not good for dialing in. I never did "get " the idea of shooting at 100 yds. But it is ok. I have some BZO targets to compensate with.

I thought, for a day or two, that I had an "in" for us out at the base's RR. But it died. The plan was to ask some of you guys if you wanted to spend a day or two out there. Instead I have an "in" for the Hi Dez Match at Thanksgiving (supposedly... probably puke out too...) so I can at least get my 600 dope and an attempt at consistency at 1000. I WAS thinking of you guys out there.

I got a new Counter Sniper 4-50 x 75 that I am dying to try out. Just pretty busy lately.

Scott

Give me a PM and I'll give ya my phone number. Or can we pm here?

For you other guys, thank you for your acknowledgement!

Welcome to the Hide and Semper Fi brother! This is by far the best source of online information out there and a great place to link up with other shooters as well.

As for that scope of yours... Let me just say I hate to inform you but you bought into some snake oil on that one. Return or unload it at first opportunity. Here's a long thread about it and also good for a good laugh as well: http://www.snipershide.com/shooting.../24407-counter-sniper-scopes-review-test.html

And another: http://www.snipershide.com/shooting.../187739-counter-sniper-rifle-scope-video.html

Do some reading around the Optics Forum and you will see what's the best, what's workable, and what's a good bang for your buck.

I get the message. I'll still see how this thingee plays out. All different items need to be gotten used to. Important is that click system. The price was right from Sportsman's Guide and the payments are spread out as well. (Strange reticle pattern.. one normal and one long range plus 2 more patterns making the scope "busy" AND mil reticle with MOA adjustment clicks... Just need to remember 1 and 4.)

The power ring was very tight and I wouldn't mess with it until I talked to someone there. The owner talked to me. He did mention fuzz at distance. The lock rings are well marked and prominent, and separate from the turret knob, so I don't get what the guy in the video said.

If it turns out to be garbage, I'll let ya know. I just wanted something that I could actually see with at distance. I believe I need a shallow riser as the objective lens is so close to the forward hand guard, I can barely slip a piece of paper in there. I asked him about whether whip might end up cracking the lens. He didn't believe so, but told me the warranty stuff..."just send it back, we'll replace it." BUT when I looked up the conditions, one HAS to have paid full price and it was a coupla hundred less at SG. So... I'm thinking about a 3/4" riser I found. Gotta wait until the first of the month... hehe.

Got any scoop on how much MOA is equivalent to height of riser?
