Hello people!
My name is Scott. That tag name is ancient greek and means "Not Difficult". It's just a name I have used around the net in various places.
I spent 22 years in the Marine Corps, I am retired Enlisted. I then spent 10 years in college and hold a master's in Philosophy. I am a PhD candidate but don't much care about that. I just turned 60 in July. My wife passed from breast cancer on 9/10/11.
I am attempting, not as intensely as I could, to re-hone my skills to see if I can again become competitive. I ran the rifle range as the NCOIC out here for 2 years and I was on the team for one of those years. But I have been retired since 95, so no regular access to the range since them. I say "not as intensely as I could" because I have no idea where there are any decent ranges out near me. Can't use the one on the base, dang it.
You will find that I am not very "vocal" here, and in fact, I intend to lurk for quite awhile, collecting helpful info for myself. I'll "speak up" if I feel the need.
IF some reasonably priced Long Range physical school comes up, and I can afford it, and the trip, I may meet you there.
I am reloading my own ammo. I have worked a couple of 80% lowers. With Barb's insurance money (there wasn't much), I purchased an AR10. Armalite upper, match grade, and Precision Aerostar match lower. (More Crapifornia garbage) 20" inch barrel. Got it from 7.62 SASS. I have a couple of 15's. I recently purchased that new Mossberg Predator MVP. Sweet little gun. MIGHT work for 600 competition, I don't know. I am considering a 26" 7.62 barrel. I only obtain military chambered stuff.
I started with black powder a few years back. I have converted a few pistolos. Some merely drop ins, some with a recoil shield and gate. I can do trigger stuff. The point is that I am unafraid to attempt to smith my own weapons. I will only seek help or let some one else touch my guns when it is absolutely necessary.
But I would categorize myself clearly as a "hobbyist" as that's the level that probably fits me the most. I'm a little advanced as a hobbyist goes, but I would not call me a pro.
I hope to eventually meet some of you guys n gals out there on the range. YES I know gals shoot great also.
So.. anyway... I am not a complete newbie, just rusty and need more knowledge.
Take care you all!
Scott
