Insurance is based on value not size. Shipping cost is based on weight w/ dimensions factoring in if large.

Ultimate... Frustration? (What to do about my LaRue)

It is both value and size of valued item inside the shipping container if UPS. You have to ask about the size of valued item at the counter at a customer service center. It will not be considered and the insurance cost will be calculated based on both the declared value and exterior dimensions of the shipping container if you do not ask.
If the dimensions of the the insured item are significantly lower than the shipping container, it will significantly lower the insurance cost. Try it.

LaRue sent a label for UPS - label printed for 12 lbs...curious to see what happens when it weighs over that, as it likely will.

Just a point of info...MAKE SURE you tighten the lower "ring screws first on your specific scope mount, then tighten the top ones. ( BTW, ADM similiar mounts say the same thing. )
I have seen issues with those LaRue mounts from the screws being tightened out of order.
I can't seem to find the written instructions stating always do the lower screws first, but did find a video, and have had LaRue answer before ... bottom first.
And a goggle search will show the same .
And this video briefly mentions it as well.. 3:10ish

@bfoosh006 - I'll have plenty of time to recheck the mount before the rifle goes to the range again. Much like my Talley rings, and discussed extensively here on the Hide...vertically split rings work if you do your part.
I wouldn't worry about it. They do the bore better than most anything else in the ~$200 range, and usually shoot well. Bore scope them and you'll see it's a much nicer barrel than many others at that cost. The stealths look to have gotten some polishing or lapping or whatever after they were drilled and rifled whereas some of the others in that range get nothing.
You might want to consider an adjustable gas block if you want to suppress it, stealth gas ports are large.
If you ship often, you won't lose anything by bringing it up. I do it at the counter if I am going to the distro center because it does not show up in either a residential or commercial shipping account. It will not make much or any difference if the rifle is close to the same length as the box, but will lower the cost of it's something like an SR25 carbine in a much longer pelican case.

I've just seen numerous times the screws were tightened higgedly piggedly on vertical rings.... so just a comment on something to check.

Got my Larue assembled 6.5 Grendel upper and LPK back in December and took it to the smith for him to install an AGB and AAC 51T mount/brake after my own attempts to remove the Larue gas block ended with a broken bit.
After using acetone to get the Larue gas block off due to the liberal application of green Loctite, the smith discovers the gas tube is also green Loctite'd in place. No big deal, going to sell the block so I'll just get a new gas tube and call it a day.
Got home with the upper a few minutes ago and on the PSA-15 lower, sporting the Larue LPK, it's very tight to close the rear take down pin. New pin detent is what I'm thinking and go to hand cycle the upper. Bolt carrier lodges in the Larue receiver extension. Damn, cheap PSA lower must be out of spec.
Get out the other PSA-15 I bought on Black Friday and successfully used in a 3G match yesterday with a DD upper and Colt LPK and same same for the Larue upper. The DD upper works on both lowers so I get out my Colt 6945 factory SBR. Same story, except I didn't even try to close the tight rear takedown pin as this lower has a stamp already. Colt upper, as expected, fit and hand cycled on the PSA-15 lowers with no issues.
So, an email is off to Larue explaining the above and asking for an RMA so they can sort it out.

I think that’s one of the concerns with large frame AR builds, there’s no MILSPEC like with the AR 15. My small frame Larue uppers fit on my other lowers.
I think if I was to buy a large frame gun it would be with a matched set.

This is a small frame (AR15) UU upper in 6.5 Grendel. No large frame/AR10 cross contamination issues. It is just out of spec for an AR15 upper receiver.
Based on the OP having a broken front takedown pin area on his Larue lower when shot gunning the upper, and me having this issue with a Larue upper on multiple lowers, I'm guessing some upper receivers got made which are out of spec in at least one dimension.

Ahh.. I see, assumed it was a Creed. You can see my post above, I've had accuracy issues with my Full Larue Rifle. It has function fine with the factory barrel but the accuracy is not where I thought it would be.
I have another Larue upper and Lower that were purchased separate from each other and there aren't any issues, I've also run both uppers on a Lancer Lower without issue. I think you guys are correct that a batch of upper were machined out of spec.

I'll be fine if I can get a 1.5MOA (or less) average with five shot groups and handloads. Have 200rds of factory for break-in and brass and if I can get sub-2MOA with the 123gr American Gunner across multiple five shot groups I'll be happy.
ARs aren't bolt guns, and I personally don't expect an AR at this price point to chase bolt gun groups, but I expect them to actually fit on lower receivers that appear to be in spec and function with other uppers from reputable manufacturers.

My Larue Grendel upper fits tight on a Larue pTAR lower. More so on the rear pin. I'm still waiting on the Larue lower that I ordered with the UU grendel.
I had issues with recoil management shooting the grendel where as with the Larue 5.56 pTAR rifle and a .260 rifle I did not.
I tried using a 'bipod stop' to push the bipod against to stabilize the rifle while firing. It helped a lot.

Just for reference, their traffic to me is below. Sent it all back this week.
“I have sent you a return ship label so that you can send the complete lower and complete upper in to us. Approval has been given to offer a onetime replacement for the lower. We will inspect the upper and make sure the upper and lower do fit together. We cannot guarantee how another manufacturers parts will work with our upper and lower. Please keep in mind this this may take some time to make a complete turnaround, given the fact that this is an abnormal situation, we do not want to promise a time frame.”
I haven't heard back from Larue yet, but really hoping they can make the upper work so I don't have to mess around with a return/refund situation that makes me stripndown the populated lower. Already sold the MBT FCG, so if they say a refund is eventually needed I might tell them to deduct their LPK cost and I'll take back my AGB and 51T mount.

Indeed. Now I get to play the waiting game. The lady at the UPS Customer Service Center took one look at the return label the same way Neo does the matrix - I took longer to get it out of my Jeep and walk it in than for her to get it processed at the counter. Actually getting there was the problem.
Still no response from Larue after a week plus a day for the holiday, so I sent another email via their website to a different department.....
So I guess the first email went to a department that no longer exists, though it's still an option on their website, as a guy got back to me within 6hrs of sending the second message. They have a shipping label for me to send the upper back and want as much detail as possible regarding the issue I'm encountering.
Guess we'll see what happens when they get their hands on it.

I called sig with a problem and the recommended a solution and I told them I already did that what’s next. They said that I had to go due it again. So I documented it and called them back. The second time that had no record of my call and wanted me to do it again. I gave them the documentation and they sent a pick up tag. Surprise surprise I was right and it was caused by a different issue

Finally got my Larue shooting. Although with a Cradfock Barrel, JP BCG, PRS stock I’m not too sure how much really is Larue.
The grouping in my profile picture is with my Larue Ultimate upper in 5.56. It was shot with a Vortex Viper HST 2.5-10x with Black Hills 69 gr OTM. Maybe try a different load.
If this is directed at my post above, Ive tried nearly all the factory offerings in both the factory barrel and the Craddock. HSM was the best and most consistent but is no longer available. The FGMM is becoming more consistent and will be my go to until I can get McCourt to spin up something else.
You can't compare the 5.56 to the Grendel even from the same manufacturer. Different animals and the Grendels tend to be much more finicky in regards to chamber specs and ammo.

The LaRue barrels seem to be hit or miss after they started making them in house. It’s rolling the dice, and they still aren’t at the level of a true match barrel even if you get one of their good ones.
Actually I am just a dumbass and can't read....or I have ADHD and I completely missed the Grendel part.
Got this from Larue today.
We received your upper last week were able to test it with our gauge blocks, several of our lowers, and even an employee's personal Palmetto state lowers. The pin locations are in spec, and we did not experience any issues with the bcg contacting the buffer tube while cycling the action. Our uppers are designed to fit snugly, and may not have been fully seated when you experienced the bcg contacting the receiver extension tube.
Guess I'll get it back and try to figure it out myself, though I fully expect it to jam the BCG into the receiver extensions of every lower again. I guess pics will be needed if/when it happens upon arriving back home.
ETA: read their email again and have no clue what 'fully seated' means. Takedown pins are in or not. When they're in, they're in. Not like there's a fine tuning element to an in spec AR15 upper and lower ....as seen by my use of a half a dozen uppers and lowers interchangeably over the last decade.
Guess I'm just pissed at Larue for a seemingly shit response. Can't wait to get the upper back and it runs fine, indicating they swapped out an upon receiver or fixed and refinished the one I sent in.

To keep things transparent, I got the upper back from Larue today and put it back on my PSA lower and same thing happened; bolt carrier is sluggish an inch out of battery and gets rougher and rougher until it won't go forward after being pulled to the rear.
Took a harder look at the whole rifle and noticed the BAD lever on the lower is interacting with the upper, which has a larger diameter than any other upper I've ever dealt with.
Remove the lever and no issues.
Larue did the right thing and took it back, but this is on me for not catching that their upper, which has a cut out for the upper paddle of the bolt hold open, is too large in diameter for a BAD lever attached to the paddle.
I guess they did this to alleviate the non-issue of the bolt hold/release latch from getting snagged on things...

Didn't even research to see if it was an issue as I'd never encountered an upper it didn't work with.
I actually Somewhat of a similar experience. The “rack grade” barrel on my predatar shot great, easily at or just under a minute with 77gn maybe 6 or 7k rounds later I used the voucher to swap it for a larue barrel and I got groups like you see with the OP. Now it’s just a beater carbine.
i have a phase five on one of mine Larues, the Maritime did not fit. had to use a flat face trigger to have enough room in the trigger guard

I sent a follow-up e-mail to clarify what I meant, since I retrospect I wasn't being clear. I sent them a complete rifle minus one missing pin (and discounting the damage to the lower). I received an upper receiver group and a stripped lower back...I wanted to ensure they knew "LPK" included receiver extension, stock, etc.
It might have prompted that sort of insane laughter...the kind that happens when you don't know what else to do, but you're sure that violence isn't the answer.
What's really crazy is the timing...three months to send me my URG and a stripped lower back? What was going on for three months? I just got reinserted in the build queue at the end? Cue more laughter. To be totally, fair, I got a shipment notification within a business day - haven't had a chance to read the e-mail yet, but at this point I think I'll just wait and be surprised...because, honestly, why not?

Nah, he’s shooting a LaRue barrel, so he has an excuse. If he couldn’t get a WOA to shoot, then I’d be worried.

The folks at LaRue did eventually manage to get parts of the rifle back to me before I left. Yes, I said parts... You see, the "fine" people at LaRue kept my buttstock, receiver extension, action spring, buffer, pistol grip, pins and springs....you get the idea. What they sent me back was an upper receiver and a stripped lower. If it was a lower receiver part (that I paid for!) other than the receiver itself, they kept it.
This was after they insisted I send all of it to them and then held onto it for months so they could do zero work of any kind on it. There's not much I can say other than LaRue has lost this customer for life. NEVER again. It's not (just) that they fucked up on the last couple things I ordered from them - it's that the clearly didn't give a shit about making it right.

I picked up an UU 65CM upper to slap on my lower, and the fit was awful. Literally a few mils worth of slop between the matting of the upper and lower.
Whereas the 7.62 upper / lower are tight, the UU doesn't mount to a Laure lower without tons of slop.
I suspect they are making them to fit multiple lower designs... but in typical Larue fashion they dont tell you this in any manner.
So much slop.... its hard to believe.
