Well, I have a guy offering a used Remington 700 varmint model in .308 for one of my AR15s and was wondering what the value of it would be.

From what I know it is

Remington 700 Varmint .308
The barrel has been cut down to 19" and recrowned with a 45 degree target crown
Rifle has also been cerekoted FDE
Scoped with a Mueller APT with unknown rail base and rings.
Also includes a bipod, unknown of make and has 5 boxes of FGMM 168gr
Sits in the factory tupperware stock. Never handled one so not sure how it compares to the hogue stocks in regards to accuracy.

Just a little curious what you guys would value this package at. When I asked about the cut and crown job and accuracy, I was told there was no loss in accuracy.

If I were to value it I would assume if everything checks out maybe $650-700? Am I generously high?

Also, other than a visual inspection. How would I tell if it is a good crown job? Should I take some cotton swabs with me? All input will be greatly appreciated. What should I look for when doing my in person inspection?

Honestly, I would give him $400 for the rifle and tell him to keep the scope. Another $100-$125 for the ammo. I say skip the scope because it will unnecessarily inflate the value of the rifle with something that is not in high demand. The rifles barreled action and the fgmm will yield a positive ROI but not the Chinese scope.

See my edit. above. You do not want to add a substandard scope into bargaining. You can find chinese scopes anywhere, by removing it from the deal you are $150 to $200 below your initial estimate. You can get another used Vortex for that much.
The Meuller is $179 NIB, I would not ever consider buying one, and if I did would not pay more than $75 for a used one. So adding it to the deal he may value it at $179 or $150. You get it and will not move it for even $100.

I would not sweat the crown job, even if its bad you can always cut and crown it again to 18" for around $75 or less (most smiths in my area). Look at the crown face, the qtip is a good way , but look at the powder pattern and see if it is even. Just a quick thing to look at.
