Suppressors Using a 338 can for 308

Re: Using a 338 can for 308

I have a .338 SAS Ti QD can and we shoot it on our AR10 all the time. No problems.

What exactly are you concerned about? Just throw an SAS QD muzzle brake on the .308 and go shoot. You will not hurt the suppressor if that is your worry. I have a .308 can for the 5.56/.308 and a .338 can for the .308/.338 bolt gun.

Re: Using a 338 can for 308

How solid is the lockup with the SAS QD mount?

I've just now sent payment for one with the TOMB mount as I've got some doubts about how tight a seal the QD mount makes vs the TOMB mount. But it's not yet in stock and I could get paper started on the QD mount sooner.

Now I'm having second thoughts.

I already own 9 other cans, several AAC QD ratchet mounts, just not sure about the SAS mount seal/indexing/etc.

Thanks in advance for any feedback/help.

Re: Using a 338 can for 308

The SAS QD mounting system locks up just fine. When you look at the muzzle brake you wonder.....how can that be solid? The flange inside the suppressor is adjustable to your brake. So you just slip the can on and twist clockwise until it stops. Then, you twist counter clockwise until it stops. Now you are adjusted. 1/4 turn in the clockwise direction will release the can. There may be a small bit of blow back and leakage due to the pressure but it's hardly noticeable. It's a very solid system and I would recommend it to anyone.

Re: Using a 338 can for 308

I have the 338 SAS QD Ti. It shrinks the groups on my 338, leaves the groups the same on the 308, and spreads em a bit on my 6.5 CM. I also use/like it on my 300AAC. The lockup is good and tight, but its left for tight. Don't screw up like I did and go right for tight....no bueno.

My bro in law has the TOMB in 30 cal. With both using the 308 they sound the same. However, the muzzle break on the TOMB is MUCH better. That thing can tame some recoil. His 10 year old shoots his 7 WSM with out a flinch, and my dad was so impressed that we took the old brake off of his 300 Weatherby and stuck a SAS TOMB even though he has no interest in sound suppression.

If I were to do it over again, I would go TOMB just because of how good the muzzle break is.

Re: Using a 338 can for 308

As far as a 338 can on a 308 goes it works great. Been using my TBAC 338 can on my 308/338 DTS since last spring, and I shoot primarily 308 through it. No problems whatsoever.

Re: Using a 338 can for 308

How about in regards to the muzzle flash / sound and such with a 308 going threw a 338 can. Could a 308 can do a better job than the 338 or would it just be a waste of time?

Thanks alot for all the info so far guys

Re: Using a 338 can for 308

Muzzle flash will depend on the can. I took part in a night shoot a few year ago where some high end 30cal cans still exhibited muzzle flash on 308's and some not so high end ones completely eliminated it.

any idea if the sound suppression will not be as good as a can specifically designed for a 308? if so by how much? thanks
