I have one for my 7WSM and I wish it was like the one above because it SUCKS from the prone...I just shoot w/o it now.

Re: Vais Muzzle Brake

Had a guy shooting next to me with a VIAS once, not only did he get dirt/sand all over him, but on me also. He quickly asked me where I got my Badger Thruster from once he saw how little to no dirt the thruster kicks up.

Re: Vais Muzzle Brake

I have a couple VAIS brakes on my 264 Win mag deer hunting rifles. They do tame the recoil, but they are loud. I don't shoot prone with these rifles so that is not a concern to me. As for cleaning, I just use a lot of Q-tips soaked with Hoppes.

Re: Vais Muzzle Brake

I shoot without A brake now but I have used a Vais brake because it hardly seemed any louder than unbraked rifle(in 308 anyway). I know alot of hunting guides will only allow their clients to use Vais brakes because of the noice factory associated with brakes. However the quietest Vais brake in my experience is the one with holes all the way around........in my opinion can't be shot prone period........the concussion is about like a 50 cal.

Re: Vais Muzzle Brake

I never had a problem with mine. It's not as loud as some brakes and only occasionaly get something thrown up - sometimes in the morning when the ground is wet. I do like the Badger FTE as well, very effective. Post what you think of it once you get it on that .338.

Re: Vais Muzzle Brake

I currently have one on my 7mmWSM,it works good as far as recoil is concerned. But,like mentioned above, the dust from shooting in the prone is not good.I alway's try to lay something down under the muzzle(whenever possible),to eliminate dust and debri's flying everywhere. When I get my rifle rebarreled,I will be putting on a Holland Radial brake.
