Rifle Scopes Val has made the IOR Recon even better

They been trying to bash me for years......I'm so beyond that. They love to trash me, they love to trash Rex. They love to trash Val, they love to trash anything and everyone that dares say anything positive about IOR. But the one thing they can't trash is "recent" history. In the last 8*9 years I don't believe you can find one post one this site or any other site about ANY of IORs scopes with a 40mm tube. The only real complaint I have about them is I find it kind a hard to shoot some times with that big ass grin on my face!!!

I got the new 4.8-30 Recon a few months back, I've been nothing but impressed with it. the only downside is trying to shoot with a big ass grin on your face. The clarity is nothing short of amazing they made the lines a bit smaller in this this one so even at full mag it doesn't seem like your looking a two crossed 2x4s. an extremely well thought out scope.

You do realize that it is the same basic scope as Athlon Cronus 4.5-29x56, Trijicon Accupower 4.5-30x56 and Delta Stryker 4.5-30x56 except with a different reticle and shoved into a 40mm tube, right?
I do agree it is a nice design, but if you bought the IOR version, you overpaid since all the other ones I mentioned below can be had for a lot less.

That is an earlier version of the design which is not quite as good. Very good for the money, though.

Yes, Does the Athlon, Trijicon, or Delta use Schott Glass, does any of them have 140 minutes of internal travel? Because those things also are "shoved" into the 40mm tube.

That is actually an interesting question because that optical system will really struggle at the edges with that much travel. I suspect yours does. The size of the corrected image in the focal plane has to match the amount of mechanical adjustments built into the system. You can make the adjustment range go very far from a mechanical standpoint, but it does not mean the optics are sized to support it. I suspect that if you crank the adjustment all the way to the edge you will start picking up some pretty nasty distortion and drastic parallax difference across the field of view.
On a separate note, what exactly are you doing with that gun that requires 140 MOA of adjustment? If you are doing ELR, get a TARAC instead of cranking all the way to the edge of the adjustment.
Otherwise, what do you need 140MOA for? I shoot my 308Win a lot which is not as flat as what most of the guys here shoot and even with a fast barrel an awesome Badlands Precision bullet it is around 80MOA or 23-24mrad to get to a mile (which is really tricky after going through a transonic region anyway, but lots of masochistic fun).
I've got a Delta Stryker 4.5-30x56 on that gun and its 29 mrad of adjustment is plenty for my purposes. I do have to pay attention to the mounts, but it is not a complicated thing to do.
Seriously, what do you do that you are willing to pay extra $1k or so for the extra 40MOA of adjustment? I would rather put that money into a TARAC that I can use with different scopes.

Its beyond ridiculous the amount of bashing that goes over a scope built by LOW Japan ,scope that has nothing to do with IOR at all ,but all the other LOW scopes under various brands are OK , no to mention all the scopes assembled with LOW components just to make the ''made in US'' treshold?

It's an IOR scope. If it didn't have anything to do with IOR it would be 1500 dollars in a 34mm tube, with a great hassle free warranty.

By that logic, if countersniper sold a LOW made optic for $5500, it would be a deal.
The new 'Recon' Valdada 4.8-30x56 40mm G2 -> Its VALDADA ,Valdada is IOR distribuitor in US ,that is where IOR conection ends, but scope has literaly as much to do with IOR as your Athlon or Vortex . 40mm tube was somethgn Val speced the LOW to build. Good or bad ? it seems that it enables 45mil of travel. I can imagine that pulled glass work with it ,if the scope hopes to have decent picture at dialed 45mil

That’s as likely as it being the top spec’d optic sold for the price it should be.
IOR has a long way to go to dig themselves out of the shithole of a reputation they have. That’s the main reason they get bashed.
If you like yours, go out and win a few matches with it and change everyone’s mind.
People used to buy IOR because you could get into a FFP scope at a cheaper price, though with the higher risk of it breaking. That was me 8 years ago.
Rep is tarnished now and there's tons of FFP scopes these days.
The only way to dig themselves out of this pit is to sell a better scope(reliable) at a cheaper price, then maybe over the course of a decade of receiving high praise for value, etc, they could win a portion of the market. I don't see that happening.
Their business model nowadays should be to build something to compete with the SWFA fixed power scopes with great tree reticles, ZS, 10 mil turrets, close focus, better glass and so on, but these have to be offered at slightly higher prices, not twice the price, and they have to be indestructible, track right, and hardly ever break.

Not every LOW Scope is created equal, they have varying degrees of specifications which play into the overall quality and cost.
If it's a 100% LOW how does it have the IOR / Schott Glass spec, did IOR give them the lenses, or is the scope sent to IOR, where they switch out the components like the Vortex Gen 2. Or are they using Asian Schott as I said? Schott has factories in China.
Vortex gets a completed scope, then takes it apart and replaces components in it. I have the images and video to prove that point.
This is not always a cut and dry thing. And as noted above since the optical design is a LOW product, how does it handle the differences vs the OEM models we see from the other companies. Sure you can spec a scope and have it branded, but if you change stuff, how does that resonate in our hands. Lots of people have great ideas, putting them into practice is a different story.
One LOW OEM Product might cost the company $180 per scope, the same scope with a different level of spec might cost the company $300, which is why you see a big difference in retail price. Go back in time, the USMC Unertl sold to the Marine Corps for $700, today they command $2500+ even the copies from USO are worth more than 3x the money than the USMC paid. Numbers do not tell the complete story.

When I started reviewing stuff, I looked at a bunch of IORs. Then, I tracked how people who bought them per my recommendation fared. Then, I stopped recommending them.
When I test a scope, I test only that one scope. However, if I recommend something based on that one scope, I keep an eye on how it does in the field and react accordingly.

It would be great to read the basic claims at the Valdada page , its claiming Shott glas inisde erector only and Japan glass elswhere . As i sugested like 40mm tube , this could also be something speced out (or just PR) ,LOW builds whatever you want 500-5000+$ scope. Shott is brand of glass , IOR / Shott? IOR is not mentioned anywhere.

How many IOR scopes do you own? Obviously you are here to advocate for them... Unfortunately as previously stated you will receive no sympathy or interest here. IOR has dug their own hole here and has not made any progress and more than likely will not.

I ain't scared of Frank, or anyone else.......at any range. ...The long range class Frank is referring to I out shot a couple of LE swat team members there, if fact, the guy I was teamed up with he and I took top team, and I missed top shooter by one shot. and at our local 600 yard matches I regularly out shoot LE swat team members there. I have placed as high as 3rd. last month (my first with the new recon) was actually my worst. But it had nothing to do with the scope. I just wasn't getting through the stations in a timely manner. I ran out of time on all but two stations. But me being damn near 60 and most of these guys being mostly around 30ish , sometimes its just hard for me to keep up. But on those months when its mostly shooting and not a lot of running around I can for the most part hold my on.
Too bad most “LE Swat Teams” don’t regularly practice at 600yds.....
I bet you make more hits at 1k with your rifle than people do with their pistol.

Gentlemen, the man clearly participates in shooting sports and is proud of his results. I do not think there is any need to belittle that. While I disagree with his choice of optics, any participation in shooting sports should be encouraged. He goes to the range, sends lead and hits his target. I see no compelling reason to take issue with that.

In other words, IOR scopes are made in Romania and Valdada is a US importer for them. 1st gen Recon is one such scope. 2nd Gen Recon is made by LOW for Valdada. Romanian IOR factory had nothing to do with it. It is a Valdada product.
In other words, if Recon G2 turns out to be a turd, it should have no negative impact on IOR's reputation and if it turns out to be decent scope, no positive impact either.
