Vihtavori N110 - 300 Blackout Subsonic Loads

Built a 16" 300blk bolt gun with a Wilson barrel. Figured I would start a thread here to share the load data journey.

With the limited data on N110, I did a quick test to see where the limits of the charge would be using Hoosier 220gr lead powder coated bullets and Noslers 175 Custom Comps. I shot 6 loads of each. Figuring this would also be barrel break in, I used crappy Ginex primers in the Starline brass.

I forgot to adjust the settings on the chronograph for the 7.5gr 220 load. Was surprised at the 8.0gr 220 load (Velocity of 1089fps SD of 7), seemed to shoot close to an 1" at 100 yards. More to come there. Gun didn't like the Noslers lighter bullets as much.

I have some 220gr Noslers on the way and some 220gr Sierra RN to try. The powder was MUCH quieter than CFEBlk.

Anyone else playing with this powder?

Sure, happy to share. I'm looking forward to playing with that 8.0 load and the Hoosier bullets. I may back it down to 7.9gr for some wiggle room and try 10-20 with CCI400 to compare against the Ginex primers.

Frankly, if the gun shoots 1MOA with those bullets and the Ginex primers without much work, I would consider myself super lucky.

I’ve been messing with N110 for my 300 BLK as well. Out of a 10.5” barrel, 8.6 gr of N110 and a 220 gr Nosler custom comp shot very well. Subsonic and cycled great.

With the pistol brace ruling, I ended up picking up a 16” upper. Haven’t had a chance to test much with that combo in the new barrel, but hoping to soon. I also have some 208 gr ELDMs loaded with N110 as well.

It definitely seemed to favor heavier bullets, but that was a very limited test so far. I'm looking forward to trying a bunch of 220 grain bullets, including more powder coated, some nosler custom comps, etc

Test loads for tomorrow. The Hoosier bullets have a ton of variance and you can tell some are deformed. I did back the charge down to 7.9gr to get more breathing room on the velocity to keep it subsonic.

I'm hoping that I see similar SDa out of the two bullet types. If the Noslers Custom Comp 220gr arrive before I shoot, I will load 20 of them as well.

N110 has performed very well in a 300blk break action here. Great consistency compared to a lot of other loads ive tried.

Heavy cast and coated bullets sized to .311 have done phenomenally well, often more consistent than anything aside from the old 240smk.

It seems to help when you can really fill up the case with lead AND keep a sane distance from the lands.

Its also been notable that loads with speeds between 900 and 1000 fps have been noticeably more consistent and quiet than 1050ish ones in more than a few non gassers ive tried.

Updates on the reloads...

The gun did not like the 220 Sierra Round Nose Soft Points. I was getting 3"+ groups at 100, but it seems to really the 220 Noslers Custom Comp. Accuracy with them was around 2" at 100 yards but the velocity was slow in the mid 900s with a charge of 7.9. I juiced it to 8.1gr and the SD tightened from like 24 to 16 (20 rounds fired) with a velocity of 1029fps. Groups tightened to about 1" at 100 from prone with a rear bag. I am going to try swapping primers to see if the SD can tighten further, but I had no issues hitting plates at 300 yards with the load.

I did hit a 630yd 10” plate this weekend with the 220 Hoosiers, but it wasn't easy with those bullets. I will try the same again with the Noslers.

It is definitely quieter than CFEBlack.

This load flat out shoots. Loading to 2.242" OAL and 1.635" Base to Ogive. Have taken it to 630 yards.

Groups below at 50yds, all 5 round groups from prone with a bipod. The bottom right was shot by @WillHugh, so the gun and load is consistent.

Im using VV N120 for my 8.3" and with 180-190 gr, I think Im running 10gr to keep me under 1050fps.

I kept reading about powders being more quiet than others, and I picked up a lb of LilGun today, and loaded up 5 rounds of each. except 8gr of LilGun, and loaded them every other round, I couldnt tell any difference in noise at all.
